Do kids start questioning the existence of Santa? My niece is 8. She was telling DH that her dad brought her to see Santa. DH asked her if it was the 'real' Santa (I wanted to kill him for even asking her that) & her reply was 'I don't know '.
It seemed like that thought never crossed her mind. WDYT? DH put the seed of doubt out there?
Re: At what age
I still tell my DD and DN (13/14) Santa is real! They don't believe me, but why ruin it? They are still kids! For example, DN wants a four-wheeler, he is getting one. Nana, doesn't have that much money! DD, wants a bed, a phone (razor), and a hollister store (which she is only getting the clothes not the store), mom and dad don't have that much money, it must be Santa!
So they laugh at me when I say Santa is real, but how do they get all these gifts?
Haha. I will be this way, too. I love the idea of the "magic" of Christmas. It's the whimsy in me. :P
My neighbor said to me a week or so ago that she didn't celebrate the Santa Clause part of Christmas. She said her parents wanted them to appreciate that the presents were coming from them and not some mythical person. And while I get the idea, I think it is a little... god-complex-ish (lol at me making up words) and not fun. Oh, mom and dad bought me a lot of presents for the end of the year... Yay... It sounds so boring.
That stinks but it made me laugh because H has a crazy aunt (MIL's sister), and our daughter will also (SIL) and we're able to joke about it, because what else can ya do. But I'm just slightly terrified that our daughter will get the gene. I'm probably going to be the old strict mom because I want her to end up not crazy
Daughter #1 was pg in hs.
Daughter #2- sells herself for drugs on CL
Daughter #3 is a stripper
Crazy aunt used to call me the bad influence. Ha.
Oh man. My H and I talk about this all the time. Which is one of the many reasons my mother is not a part of Bean's life.
Ha, the irony! I'll never be that strict. I wouldn't mind bringing mine to church on Sundays but I will be working Sat, Sun and Mon days 9-6 for the first year. So I'm on my own on in the religion department for awhile.
That's funny though, I was also considered the "bad influence" on a few of my friends when I was young because I was always pretty free willed, and I turned out OK
Morals, common sense, and open mindedness go a long way.
