Who does VBACs?

H and I are planning on TTC again in about 6 months.  I went to Newton the first time and had an unexpected c-section-and they don't do VBACs.  Methodist does them, right?  Who are some good doctors?

Re: Who does VBACs?

  • Have you thought about going to an ICAN meeting? Those ladies will have great information for you. I know of several doulas in the area who specialize in VBACs, so they know a lot about the different providers. If you would like their information, send me a pm.

There are providers at both Methodist and Mercy who will do VBACs.

  • I spoke with my OB about this at my 6 week PP appointment. I was only in the area for the last month of my pregnancy and saw all of the docs at Lakeview OB during that time. Dr. Lehman was the doctor I saw at my first appointment and ended up being the doctor on staff at Methodist when I was in labor and had my c-section. I saw her for my follow up and she seemed to think I would be an excellent VBAC candidate if I wanted to go that route when that comes up for discussion in a few years.

I was happy with all of the doctors I saw in the group, especially Dr. Lehman & Dr. Badila.

  • The doctor's at Women's Health Services do VBAC's, and I'm delivering at Mercy.  I was told I could be a candidate, but I'm having a repeat c-section on Tuesday (my choice).

  • ditto going to an ICAN meeting - i feel very strongly that anyone who has had a c/s, even if they are planning a repeat c/s, should attend at least one meeting. they are a wonderful, welcoming group of women who have a LOT of knowledge about cesareans, VBACs, and providers who are truly supportive of VBAC (there aren't very many in DM, unfortunately).

or even just sign on to their message board, it's got lots of great information and 'reviews' of providers.

other than that, i recommend finding out your provider's SUCCESSFUL vbac rate - not just attempts.
