Are you an Organ Donor

I saw this posted on another board and I thought it was an interesting question. (not sure if we have discussed this before)

Re: Are you an Organ Donor

  • I don't have it on my license but I told H that if something happens that he has my permission to donate them. I already know they won't want my heart since i have bad valves.

  • Yes -- When I'm dead I'm not going to need them, so if someone else can use them, please by all means, take them.

  • Absolutely.  Have been officially since I was 16.  I see absolutely no reason not to be.

This is me too.  The VA licenses have a darling little heart on them indicating I am an organ donor.

  • I am (it also says so on PA licenses), but I was recently told that I can no longer donate blood because of my surgeries, self graft, and transfusion so I'm not sure that they will actually accept my organs.

This is me as well.  When I got my permit I signed up to donate and when I renewed my license after getting married they put the little heart on it that says organ donor!

  • "Officially" I have been an organ donor since I was 16, but I like to say that I made the decision when I was 12. My cousin passed away from a degenerative lung disease waiting for a double lung transplant. She was 20 when she died. When I asked my mom why Jennifer died, she told me because her lungs didn't work any more and there were so many people waiting for lungs like she was, so she didn't get new ones in time.

I told my mom that I wanted to be an organ donor. I think my exact words were, "If I die tomorrow, I want to give my organs away. I'm sure kids need them too." And I feel that way about my children. If (God forbid) I had a child that passed on, I would donate whatever I could to help another family.

I'm hoping when I die (since I plan on being cremated anyway), that they just chop me up like a biology lab frog and ship my bits to whomever needs them before they toss me in the incinerator.
