Christmas drop off thingy

Tillman is spoiled. As much as we try to teach him that there are people in need in this world, at his age, he just doesn't get it. So, we try to help him with generosity as much as possible. We are definitely going to be take a toy to the fire department, but I was wondering if anyone knew of another place that takes donations of some specific sort during the Christmas Season. I know that Sleep Country does that pajama thing, but that's not going on right now. I've heard about giving coats, but I can't remember where.

Any thoughts would be appreciative.

I don't know if this is something that happens year round, but would Children's Hopsital have anything going on right now? I swear one year I heard of a toy drive for them.

We use to make my step-daughter go shopping with us and deliver the food to the Food Bank.

Other suggestions, adopting a person or small family and making him help with the shopping.

Most grocery stores have some kind of food drive going on. Animal shelters are always in need of blankets and pet food (and i'm sure a dog toy donation would be appreciated if that's the route you'd like to take). It's a little less scary to a kid to think, "that family doesn't have money to feed their pet" than "that family doesn't have money to feed themselves" so you can start the lesson sooner, and make a difference doing it. You could also contact schools in low-income areas which might have food/gift drives going on. Your church likely has a list of organizations on its radar, as well.

Have you thought about volunteering some time at a soup kitchen or something? Like, take him with you and have him help out somehow and maybe let him see all the people that come and eat there? I think that'd drive some of what you're trying to teach him home.
