10 Things 90s Kids Will Have To Explain To Their Children

this is floating on facebook right now

http://thoughtcatalog.com/2011/10-things-90s-kids-will-have-to-explain-to-their-children/

this is my fave:

9) Lisa Frank is not the name of a woman, it is the name of a movement, a culture, a way of living. It is a theory, a concept, a belief in something greater than yourself. It is the belief that all girls are entitled to dolphins covered with rainbows, jewel-encrusted frogs, and unicorns in acid-trip colors hugging each other. It is the ideology that no notebook is complete until it literally hurts your eyes to look at from so much color saturation. It is the hope that no school supply, no matter how insignificant, will be left un-bedazzled. It is the knowledge that your eraser cap, and that of your granddaughter?s, and her granddaughter?s after her, will not be some boring little nub?it will be a diamond covered with butterflies in a rainbow of colors. It is the dream of a better tomorrow.

  • The Lisa Frank thing was my fave too, I was cackling last night when I read that.  I <3 the unicorns.

  • Fun! I can think of so much more to add to that list...

  • LMAO!! my cousins loooooved fern gully!

  • I think that's more 80s kids stuff.  I mean, I was graduating HS in 1994.  NKOTB disbanded that year.  Anyone who was a kid at that time wouldn't have been super into them like the kids of the 80s were.  A 5 yr old can dance to them, but only a 13 year old can properly obsess ;-)  And My So Called Life ended in 95.  No way a kid would have been allowed to watch that.  (Or should have been allowed.)
  • Julie - I think it just means kids in the 90s (and therefore born in the 80s)

I definitely had Lisa Frank trapper keepers and folders.  I watched Clarissa and many other Nick shows religiously. Anyone else watch Square One? I begged my mom not to let it count against my allowed tv time since it was educational. ;) Some other weird 90s things I remember are Gak and pogs.

Word.  Then again, I was born in 1974. I want to see the list for "children of the early 80's."Smile

I think the mid-30s crowd has spoken

I thought it was b/c I didn't come to the US til I was a teenager, but turns out it's just b/c I am old :) that I don't know most of these

    Sweet Mother of God.

Although I guess I can't say much - my Trapper Keepers had photos of kittens and puppies on them.  At least this is "art."

YES. Or the entire 80's. I was born in 77 and most of this stuff is lost on me. I know what most of them are, but can't say I watched/played with/listened to many of them at all.

Exactly-- which is what I think is odd.  I think these are more related to people born in the 70s.  Shout out for mid-thirties Stick out tongue S

  • I was more NKOTB than Backstreet Boys, too. But I still related to a few of the things on the list.

I think that the list is geared to kids in late elementary or middle school in the early nineties.

  • I totally worked at Hallmark during the Beanie Baby craze. Killlll meeee.

  • I was born in 78, and the nsync/spice girls/beanie babies was more when I was in jr. high/high school... but I definitely remember lisa frank and clarissa from middle school :) LOVED lisa frank... my mom would only let us get ONE folder though, that crap was expensive!! ;)

Same here. I was born in 76. However, I did have an obsession with NKOTB, but I was from Boston--it was to be expected.

  • I am just a little too old for most of it.  I can recall it but I didn't actually watch those shows or buy those things. 1975 here.

I was born in 1984 and this is basically the essence of my generation. :) The only ones that didn't apply to me personally were Saved by the Bell (a little too young when it was on air and never got into the reruns as much as some other friends) and the Tamagotchis (a little too old, though some of my friends did have them).
