s/o Full Circle Farms

We bought the Groupon for it and used it and I was not super impressed. Am I picky or did we just have an "off week" with it? Our stuff seemed just ok and I thought the full price would be really expensive.

Those who do it do you do it for taste and convenience or to "do your part'? I am considering trying it again in the spring... I really want to love it!

Re: s/o Full Circle Farms

  • I'm waiting for my order right now Big Smile  They say Thursday a.m. but it usually comes before I fall asleep. I love that. I've had some stuff that's incredible... kiwi, grapes, cantelope, peaches, plums. They are things that never seem ripe or sweet enough anywhere else in the NW. I've had some things that were average. Then, I've had things that made me wonder how someone packed the box and didn't notice how bad it was. We've had potatoes that were cut... and, I don't mean a little slice... but, missing 1/3 - 1/2 of it. Lemons had mold. Strawberries had mold. Overall, I keep them because I like their philosophy. I love that they sometimes throw in a couple of tulips or a little chocolate. I love that it comes to the door.

What was the issue with yours? Did you select what you wanted in your box or just take what they gave you?

  • I really like their philosophy and the people seemed really nice but the produce we got was not very good. A lot of it was overripe and some things were pretty mealy.

I might give them another shot if this box was a one off but there is also an a really great farmers market just up the street from me that is priced a litte lower. It is nice to have groceries on my doorstep!

  • We did it for a long time then stopped b/c I would never use it all, things would go bad b/f I got to it and I still always went to the grocery store for other produce. But, I've been thinking about going back b/c they have smaller boxes.

A lot of the fruit comes overripe on purpose, so it doesn't go bad.  You just have to wait to eat it.  B/c everything is organic, it tends to go bad faster, so you have to plan carefully to not waste anything.  And make sure you check your box and change out the things you don't like ahead of time.

  • couple things:

    - I like it because it really forces us to eat more fruit/veggies

    - we use one standard box for two weeks

    - I think there is a learning curve as far as picking out things that will last longer than others (eg eat the apples more the first week and the oranges the second, but lots of stuff lasts me the whole 2 weeks) and making sure to remember to eat them!

    - if I have ANY issue with the food, I email them and get credit for it

    - I rarely buy any produce at the grocery store now and am pretty happy with it

I've seen this at grocery stores, too, especially w/ sweet potatoes/yams... i'm not sure why they do it, though.

  • I'm actually not a fan of Full Circle Farms, at all.

They bill themselves as "local organic produce," yet a huge percentage of their boxes comes from California, Mexico, and even South America (which is a huge cry from organic). They're basically a monster farm, and more of an "organic" product supplier than anything else. Plus, I haven't been impressed with the quality of their produce itself (from their booth at the farmer's market).
