Dog With Dry Skin - shampoo recs?
Now that winter is fast approaching and it's going below freezing almost every day, our poor dog's skin is drying out. This happened last year too, but it's worse already this winter. She had dandruff and scratches more than normal. Any recommendations for a good moisturizing shampoo to use?
Re: Dog With Dry Skin - shampoo recs?
What type of food are you feeding? I also use salmon oil, and it does wonders for skin/coat health.
I use Eqyss pet shampoo, which I heard about on this board. I've also heard that using a loofah can help prevent scratching your pup's skin too much while bathing.
Hope that helps!
We switch between Beneful Healthy Weight and Playful Life. Please no lectures on food... we've been through crazy sickness when feeding TOTW and finally got her digestive system back on track with what she was eating when we adopted her. (Planning to try to switch to another higher-rated food next year, though! Cross your fingers!)
Can we add fish/salmon oil to her food, or do they make tablets/pills? Any side effects or things we should watch for?
The Egyss looks good! I never thought about a loofah - we'll try that too.
I add salmon oil right on top of my pups' food. I currently use this type. The bottle comes with a pump, so you can just pump it onto the kibble. FYI - You do have to keep it in the fridge.
I know what it's like to have food-related tummy issues, and I definitely don't want to lecture anyone since I was feeding terrible stuff before! T has a sensitive tummy, so it was tough to find something that worked. We ultimately ended up with Wellness Core, and it has been amazing. Zero tummy troubles since the switch (which was 3 years ago)! I will say that in addition to having no tummy issues, the improvement in both of my dogs' skin and coat has been amazing. I hope you can find something that works for your pup if/when you switch!
Thanks for the info on the Vit E. We give Darwin fish oil every day for his dry skin and it has helped, but it's also getting worse with the weather changes.
As for the OP's question. We just pop a fishoil Capulet into Darwin's mouth three times a day, nothing fancy. He just swallows them and waits for his peanut butter treat afterwards
Totally should have mentioned this. I just buy liquid Vit. E and squirt the recommended dosage on (4-5 drops for my little guys) with the fish oil.
