We have a ton of leftover turkey from our second Thanksgiving meal. DH hates soup with poultry. I love it - it's one of my comfort things from when I was a kid - my mom makes killer turkey dumpling soup. Well, I mentioned that I wanted to make some soup out of the turkey, and DH made that "Ew" face, and it totally took the wind out of my sails. I guess I could make it anyway, but I'd want him to taste it and like it, but I know he won't.
I'm kinda sad about it though, since he always makes his white bean and ham soup which I'm not fond of because he puts too many herbs in it, and it just tastes weird to me. I never eat it, but he makes it anyway. Maybe I should just make the soup regardless!
But then he said yesterday he wanted to make mole with it. Maybe I'll make a deal with him that he can use the dark meat to make the mole, and I'll use the white meat to make soup. That way we'll both be happy. Ugh. Sometimes having a husband who likes to cook isn't such a good thing.

Whaat? My mom made this really good bean and ham bone soup growing up and it was my fav. I loved gnawing on the ham bone.
educate the ESL girl......ham = pork....right? because if so, my mom makes an AWESOME pork soup. it's actually really easy. i could probably make it myself, but i just want mom to make it. i think i'm going to call her and request it...right now. and say baby wants it.
my mom also makes a ground pork/vegetable soup. delicious!
and beef, there's also a good, common dish in taiwan for beef soup...and pho..is beef soup.
with this, i'm concluding that all meat belongs in soup.

ham is just a cured pork, well, I don't think it has to be pork, but it's typically pork
so it has to be cured?
so why do they call cute little piggies "hams"?
well..regardless, "cured pork" does not belong in soup. but "pork" does.

Ham is a cut of meat from the thigh of the hind leg of certain animals, especially pigs.[1] Nearly all hams sold today are fully cooked or cured.
This is pretty much what my mom made. It's delicious. Ham, absolutely, belongs in soup.

I remember eating various bean soups with ham in them growing up. I've always hated all pork products (actually, i could tolerate bacon), but the soups itself was really good.
