The breastfeeding train...

has left the station.  I made the decision tonight that I'm done trying to breastfeed.

We had an appointment with an ENT on Monday to see about getting her tongue-tie clipped.  The dr. had to get approval for the procedure from my insurance company...and they denied the claim.

If everything had gone good and I was able to have the procedure done tomorrow I still likely would have been a couple weeks away from my supply catching up with what she was eating.  In the meantime I would have had to keep up the schedule of breastfeeding, giving her a bottle, then pumping.

When they denied the claim all of that was going to be delayed by anywhere from a week to 3 weeks.  I know there is no way I can keep all this up for that long.  Maybe if I didn't have a 16 month old to chase after I could...but that isn't the case!

So as of right now I am at peace with my decision.  I was able to breastfeed her for 16 days and I know that she benefited from that small time.  And I benefited from it too because I am only about 5 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight and am already back in some of my regular jeans!

So I am now going to be able to fully enjoy my daughter and the last few days with my mom here before she goes home on Saturday.

Re: The breastfeeding train...

  • That sucks that they denied your claim.  I am glad you are at peace with your decision.  All that matters is that she is fed!
  • Insurance companies suck sometimes, huh?

Go enjoy that beautiful baby- happy momma = happy baby! :)

This exactly! I'm glad you were able to try, and continued to persevere when things weren't smooth right away. Hopefully feeding will be a less stressful time for all involved now.

  • As my pediatrician put it - Sometimes you just have to do what will keep you sane.  There are worse things than giving your baby formula.

At least she got the colostrum.  Kudos to you for sticking with it as long as you did.  I know it must be a difficult decision.
