Nestie vibes please :)

Hi all, I know I don't update much; Mr. Milo keeps me on my toes!  But for once I have something to talk about that's not about baby (not that I couldn't talk about my baby endlessly, but y'all don't need to hear it 24/7)...

DH and I are about to start house hunting!  We don't have room in our apartment for the little man to roam, and have way too much stuff everywhere, and we're sick of renting.

We got the ball rolling around Thanksgiving (yup, just last week), talking to a mortgage broker and real estate agent about our budget.  Unfortunately our budget is rather small, what with day care and student loans and car payments and all.  And we happen to live in one of the priciest areas of the nation (it's times like this where I'm not so psyched to have that daily glimpse of the Empire State Building on my drive home from work).  So as I'm looking at current listings of homes for sale, I'm getting kind of depressed.  I know this is our first home and all, so we shouldn't compare our buying power with that of our parents, or even our friends or relatives.  But it's hard to swallow these home prices out here, and how little it will get us in the neighborhoods we would like to live.

Anyway, I didn't come on here to moan (well maybe a little, lol; kind of having a rough day and feeling like nothing is right --- I could go on about it, but suffice it to say I have been getting less sleep than usual, am not motivated at all at work, and am feeling anxious about all kinds of stuff).

I wanted to ask for good house hunting vibes, that somehow we'll manage to snag a little jewel somewhere, someplace just right for us, wherever and whatever that may be.  I just want to find a place where Milo can grow up feeling safe and happy, and where he can have room to go crazy once he gets on his own two feet.

Thanks all, love you!

  • Good luck and lots of vibes headed your way!  We want to buy in the spring but haven't gone to figure out a loan yet.  I'm nervous that we won't be able to afford the neighborhood we want either... :/

Keep us posted and I would LOVE to hear about Milo :)

  • Good luck!  I can totally relate to the budget issues in North Jersey, the prices here are ridiculous if you want to be in a decent area. I think that's why we haven't pulled the trigger yet... I just can't stomach the prices compared to what you get.

  • It is so fun and exciting and I am sending you lots of great vibes!

Don't get discouraged, we looked for a really long time too, and you are absolutely right about the prices not getting you much in our neck of the woods! You are going to find someplace that is absolutely perfect. When you see it you will know.

Also be open to changing things! You might find a house that you like bits and pieces of but if it is in your price range the things you don't can always be changed.

Good luck, I hope you find the place of your dreams for Milo to roam!

  • I LOVE hearing Milo stories. PS he looks so pleased that you took that pic of him in the bath. "hello mom a little modesty please this isn't a free show photo op jeeze!" (Also FREAKIN cute)

That being said TONS of vibes!!! Where are you hunting having already done the NJ hunt I feeeeeel you pain majorly!

  • Lots of house hunting vibes coming your way!  Like pps said, it may take a while but don't get discouraged.  You'll find the perfect house and you'll know it!

  • Thanks everyone for the vibes and commiseration!

@Laurie, haha, that's a great caption for Milo's bath pic.  His mima was giving him a bath (she's in the background) so it gave me a rare opportunity to snap pics at the same time.  He spent most of the bath trying to eat his rubber ducky, it was hilarious.  Some more pics are below:

We're hoping to not have too much of a commute to work, so somewhere amidst the 80/280/GSP triangle.  Probably dreaming, but we have hope.  That house I was telling you about that's near you is out of our price range, unfortunately.

OMG I love those pics and it looks like he's rolling his eyes at you in the bottom one. I just adore those big eyes and chubby arms!!!

Bummer that we won't be close by....our next door neighbor is selling his house...anyway I hope you can find something that makes your commute easy enough.

    Ditto!!

Oh I'm so with you, girl.  NJ is one of the most expensive places to live.  I'm sure you will find something that's right for you.  Be patient and have an open mind, and you might just find that great little gem that's right within your budget and "wish list".  Good luck and keep us posted!  Most of all, try to have fun.  It will take a while, but it will be worth it.

  • Best of luck on the house hunt!  Sending lots of vibes your way :)

Oh, and BTW, I'm always game for Milo updates and pictures :D  LOVE the bath ones!

Oh my goodness, he is SO adorable!  I love this picture!

Good luck with the house hunt!  Don't get too discouraged after only a week, it can take quite a while to find the hidden jewel, but it will be worth it in the end.

  • You should go on House Hunters!!!!

Not sure how that helps you, but it might be fun lol? Plus Milo is so dang cute you're sure to get on the show if you take him with you. :)

But seriously, tons of vibes to you - I can't imagine how hard house-hunting is in that area. I will suggest that you take a look at the 2011 Ikea Catalog (it's free!) as it has a lot of amazing ideas and inspiration for making small spaces look big - it may help you see the beauty in something small that you would have otherwise thought was unworkable for your needs.

  • Lots of vibes headed your way.  We have thought about looking for a house, but then quickly realize that we are probably not financially ready for that yet.

Milo is just so stinkin cute!!!!!!!!  I love hearing updates about him (especially when they include the cute pictures like above)!!

Heh, thanks!  I didn't know about House Hunters, will have to check it out and maybe get some ideas!  I am so clueless about this house hunting stuff... I guess maybe I should head on over to the Buying a Home board...
