In need of a restaurant rec
Please recommend your favorite, local, old school place. I'm thinking along the lines of Cascios, Malara's, etc. But not Lo Sole Mio....we've been there a couple times and it's just been ok, not great
TIA!

Re: In need of a restaurant rec
The Drover is the absolute bomb. Old school, dark, 70s decor, all the waitresses have been there longer than you've been alive, and the steaks are amazing. It's my go to place when we celebrate anything. Get the whiskey steak.
thanks to jennied
That's funny b/c we watched the same episode and DH wanted to try it. He told his boss and his boss said it was awful, don't waste your money, etc. I'll have to add it back to the list of possibilities

Married the love of my life 6/3/06
Became a family of three 8/25/09
We are a Drover lover too. Great food, unique attmosphere.
What about Piccalo's? Brazenhead?
Not necessarily. Dan's bday is on the 10th and he was thinking we should try something new but old, kwim? I'm not sure if my parents and Evan will be with us or if it will just be the two of us.

Bohemian Cafe, Anthony's, Gorats.....
I might be limiting my ideas with the "old school" theme because I'm mentally elminating places that are actually attractive inside. LOL
My family frequents Piccolos, they have great old school food. I have also been wanting to try the Drover since I saw the episode of Man Vs Food! lol
We also like Anthonys and the Pink Poodle in Crescent, IA-its a total creepy dive but has amazing food!
Its fantastic. Just make sure to get whatever cut of meat you order whiskey marinated. The Drover is my go to place for out of town visitors.
Louie M's is really good - they're at 17th & Vinton. Louie is the uncle of one of my old roommates so we would go there a lot and get free burgers
The last 3 times we went to Pink Poodle, the food has NOT been good. We've tried different things each time, and weren't impressed. DH has been in the past and loved it, but we won't go there anymore.
We like Stella's (burgers) in Bellevue and Nettie's (mexican) in South O/Bellevue (right on the border). Stella's is really laid back, and it's super popular so it can be hard to get a table around "regular" lunch/dinner hours. Nettie's is really small, authentic mexican, but can also have a decent wait. Worth it though!
