Point & Shoot Cameras

We'd like to get my mom a Point & Shoot Camera for Christmas.  She's a bit techologically slow - so something very simple and user friendly.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Re: Point & Shoot Cameras

  • Kodak easy share would probably be good for a technologically slow person.
  • I had 3 of these Nikon Coolpix camears in my classroom that I used for an after school program. The automatic settings took great pictures and the it was easy for the students to use. I was also easily able to hand it off to the volunteers that helped with the program, many of which were older retired members of our community. http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-COOLPIX-L24-Digital-Red/dp/B004M8SVAM/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

  • I think the Nikon mentioned just above is the one my mom just got and she likes it. I just got an Olympus FE-47 that I really like. If you just set the "auto" settings (for her?), it's good to go for decent pictures as soon as it is turned on. I set mine up without even cracking a manual, and I am sooooo lost when it comes to all the icons instead of word menus on cameras, so I think that speaks to its ease of use.
  • I really don't like the Kodak we have.  I have never thought it takes good pictures and it doesn't charge right.  We just bought a Canon Powershot Elph, but I haven't had a chance to play with it much yet.

  • I had an Olympus and really liked the quality. I have a Canon Powershot now that I love. I have also had a Fujifilm and it was awful. The flash washed everything out badly so on an automatic setting it was hard to get a decent picture.

  • We've had 2 Canon Powershots & have been very happy with them.

  • We got my grandma a Kodak EasyShare for Christmas this year. She's still using a film camera so I hope this was a smart investment.

We looked at a Nikon Coolpix ad and it sounded like they were touchscreen. We veered away because of that. (Plus the EasyShare was $50 opposed to $120...)
