Christmas Commercials Vent

Car Commercials.  How does the recipient not notice the GIANT CAR in the drive-way?  Also, who is going to deliver your giant car gift on Christmas morning?

Any holiday vents?

Re: Christmas Commercials Vent

  • I cant stand the Xmas proposal commercials. Advertising agencies: Please DO NOT give my guy the idea to pop the question at christmas! My ex did that and I didn't like the timing... Maybe its just me, but Xmas is for Xmas and a proposal needs to be a different day (day we met, first kiss, etc etc).
  • The car ones are great. Who gets a CAR at Christmas (besides the uber-wealthy. We're talking average American TV viewer)? I mean, really?!

  • I got a car for Christmas once. My dad hid it in the garage and I truly had no idea. YOU DON'T KNOW ME!!

(I did have to pay for 1/2 of it on my own though)

I think parents buying a car for their teenager is a little different than my buying my H a $70K Lexus for Christmas.

I completely agree. I love the one where they're riding down the elevator and he knows the elevator music is the Lexus jingle. I always gigglesnort at that one.

But still, it was like, "Merry Christmas! Enjoy your half a car payment." and that's my problem with it. Rarely do you have the money to buy someone a car outright, so really most of those commercials are, "Merry Christmas! I just got you a $650 monthly bill!"

Luckily, I had been saving to buy a car outright after the first of the year so I was prepared, but I get what you're saying. If my future H bought me a car without telling me and didn't buy it outright, I would be majorly pissed.

My dad bought my mom a car for her birthday one year as a surprise. Mom was thrilled. And I'm pretty sure he didn't buy it outright. :)

  • I once came back from a business trip and my ex "surprised" me with a car. Though I loved the car, was majorly pi$$ed because it was a new $450 bill that we really couldnt afford, but mostly because IIIII wasn't able to be there during the purchase, take it for a test drive, pick the color, etc etc.
