I normally only have to pump once a week on Tuesdays when I go into work earlier. I usually have S nurse shortly before I go in (go in at 5) and then I pump at the end of the night when the other staff leaves (at 10p). Always just done it that way, it has always worked. Well the last 2 weeks, when I go to pump I am lucky if I get an ounce all together (was getting about 6 ish). I don't get the sudden change. The first week I thought it was a fluke cause I was freezing and shivering then it happened last week and again this week.
I guess I don't really know what my question is.....but how do you know when you're "dried up" so to speak? S seems to nurse fine for the most part. There are times where he gets a little restless. Maybe I'm not producing much anymore?
Also he does drink a ton of water but he is still nursing like he normally does. Is it unusual for them to drink a lot of water if they are getting all the milk they need?
Am I making any sense? Now that I write this all out I am getting more conviced that my boobies are drying up. But how in the heck are you supposed to know?
Re: Another BF ?
I have had to pump in the morning a couple times and everything was ok there but then I am usually fullest then. I felt full when I went to pump tonight but no I don't think I felt the let down sensation. If I ever get off the computer to go to bed I am going to try it once more.
I may try pumping during the day to see. Now I'm all paranoid I'm starving my child of milk.
Every day I think about quitting. But then I tell myself "why buy the cow when I can get the milk for free...lol. One year was my goal so I'm taking it day by day.
Our pedi said 1% or skim is fine. Today's kids get enough fat in their diets that they don't need the extra fat in whole milk. Obesity issue.
If you want to keep going, I would do some things to try to increase your supply. Same stuff as earlier - lots of water, increased protein, oatmeal, pump more often, etc.
Your body is likely slowing down to reflect what S is demanding. So maybe your body is taking cues from him that he doesn't need/want as much anymore.
Or the other issue - are you pg?
I stopped nursing completely at about 14/14.5 months. From the age of 1 on, we only nursed at night before bed. I think it was more for comfort and soothing for him, getting him ready to go to sleep, than anything else. He was eating a lot and drinking enough water and milk, so he didn't need what I was giving, he just wanted it. Our pedi told me that my S would let me know when he was not interested anymore and that we would just naturally wean that way. Worked great for us, because I haven't had any boob drying up issues.
Children don't need cow's milk. Milk from their own species will almost always be better. Many people switch to cow's milk because it's a lot cheaper than formula. If breastfeeding is working out for mother and child, there's no reason to stop.
Forgive me. This must be why my kid has taken to walking around on all fours lately.
Hahaha!! Is she mooing too?? Then I would be concerned!
I can't hear your tone so I'm not sure which way to take this.
Hmmm....
