Where to get a short tree?

Because B is into everything now that she's mobile, we are planning on getting a smaller/shorter tree and putting it up on our coffee table (taking extra precautions against leaks). Any ideas on where to get one? I was thinking one of the cut your own type places but don't they charge and arm and a leg? We procrastinated last year and got ours for $7 at Lowes so paying $50+ sounds ridiculous.

Re: Where to get a short tree?

  • I ordered one from LL Bean one year and it was pretty awesome.  They actually make them with limbs stuck into a foam core.  The limbs came prelit and had pine comes on them, so we only needed minimal ornaments to make it look nice and full.

That was quite a few years ago now, so I have no idea what the price would be.  You could always find a cheap place to get a tree and just use the top half...

  • If you're not set on a real tree, Target had small trees on sale for $18 the other day (originally $32). I actually considered getting one for DD so that she could have a little tree in her room, just for fun.

  • I've gone back and forth on the whole fake tree idea but I just love love love that real tree smell that I'd like to explore my options before I give in to the artificial route. We'll see what happens!

  • I would call around to the cut your own tree places... I would think the little trees would be cheaper.

  • Random but Wegmans has had a big selection of small real trees an they were $24. They had various types of pine, rosemary, boxwood and varying sizes two-ish feet to about four.

Ditto, they had some that were about 1-2 feet at our lot in Riva.

  • I would go with a fake tree for now. I used to feel the same way until I got too annoyed with the needles (I like to enjoy my tree for a while). And when the kids were little they would touch the tree (even on the table if they could reach the bottom) which made the needles rain off like nothing.

Now I have a fake tree and burn a pine candle in the room that makes it smell like a wonderful fresh tree minus the mess... and yet another tree saved  :)

  • You could always put pine oil on it so it "smells" like a real tree Stick out tongue Just kidding. I used to see these small (REALLY small) live trees at supermarkets and have gotten them there in the past.
