someone talk to me about Navy homecomings
H's ship is coming home soon. I plan on being at the pier, but this was his first deployment so I don't really know what to expect. Aside from dressing warmly (I made the mistake of wearing a short dress at his basic training graduation...in Chicago in January lol) do you have any insight/advice?

Re: someone talk to me about Navy homecomings
Plan on a looonnng morning. I know when H pulled in you could start seeing the ship at like 7 or 8, then they didn't actually start pulling into the pier until about 10, which takes like an hour itself. Then after they are finally all set, it takes at least an hour before they start letting people off. The CO and XO will come off and do media interviews, then go back on. Then new dads will get off who haven't met their babies yet. Then they will start with officers and E7 and up, and then they go down in rank. I think ours next went E6 and E5, then E4, and then they did full liberty call for everyone else to leave at once. I think we got back to our car by about 12, which wasn't too bad overall.
Os should disembark last. I can't imagine my nonexistent/theoretical juniors having to wait on the ship while I theoretically get to go greet my family.
I'm pretty sure it was just the higher ranking officers, but I can't remember for sure. I fully admit I know very little about officer rankings, and don't pay as much attention as I should to it. But it definitely wasn't all officers.
Wow. That sounds like a lengthy process lol. I volunteered to help the FRG set up the morning of so I'll be there bright and early!
I'm crossing my fingers to win the "first kiss" raffle (basically you buy tickets to win, and if you win your sailor gets to be the first guy off the ship). If I don't win, I guess this makes me thankful H is on a smaller ship and there aren't as many people getting off! I feel bad for people waiting at a carrier homecoming.

Oh yours will probably be waayyy quicker than that then. Sorry, I just automatically assumed carrier, and that's what I know.
What kind of ship is your H on? One of the destroyers with H's ship pulled in the same morning, and they pulled in at I think like 7 and were all completely cleared out before 9.
How much do you pay for the First Kiss tickets? Ours can't be bought, you just earn them by attending FRG meetings. I totally would have paid for them though! I'm not eligible to win one anymore anyways, but I was totally hoping for it last time. If not though, I can tell you that my H was off only like 45 minutes later (and that's on a carrier), so it won't be too much longer til he is off.
He's on a destroyer.
First kiss tickets are $1 per, and you can buy as many as you want! I won 20 of them as part of door prizes at the halfway night party, I've bought another 20. There is this annoying chick who has bought like 60, so I might buy a bunch just to beat her lol.

Haha I totally would buy more than her just to do it. I like the idea of being able to buy them.
I know a ton of wives were pissed at ours because it was supposed to the more FRG meetings you went to, the better odds you had. Then they drew the name the night before they came home, and had given out tickets that night too, and one of the 2 winners was someone who had never been to a meeting before. People were not happy.
Nonono. She's not annoying because she's bought a bunch of tickets, she's annoying because she never. stops. talking. ever. And has this nails on chalkboard laugh.
The first FRG meeting I went to she was sitting behind me and she was whispering to anyone and everyone who would listen the entire time. I wanted to pull my hair out. Now I just wait and see where she's sitting and pick the seat furthest away from her.

I think that is just about the cutest idea ever!! I hope u win!
At the ones I've been to, it was always First Kiss, First Hug, New Dads, Os and CPOs, then POs, then Seamen. I think only the Commander and Lt. Commander stayed behind, and were ceremoniously ushered off by VIPs, but no one payed attention at that point, because of the rush and finding your seaman.
Usually, there's fun stuff to do there too-like arts and crafts stations (banner making, photo-editing types of stuff). Is this what your FRG is doing?
