GBCK

Reading your post below about your obnoxious BIL made me impressed at your husband's ability to redirect conversation.  I am sure some of that comes from a teaching background.  Your husband sounds like a keeper.

Re: GBCK

  • he's a good guy...who currently drives city bus for a living, since grad-school things didn't pan out well for him--he uses 'redirect' more there w/...well, the crazy people who ride the bus :)

But, yeah, he's good like that and I'm always impressed :)

  • Wait, your H drives a BUS? I used to drive a bus!
  • he does--for 2? years now.

He actually strongly prefers working the ADA short busses for the handicapped--that's where he is right now--works 'til midnight :)

  • That is awesome! Paratransit is an awesome service to be able to provide to people. We were not subject to those regulations (and many others, haha) when I was driving, but I have been known to hop off and un-stick a handicapped lift to get a big city bus back in motion when the lift was stuck with dozens of people on board trying to get to work. :D

  • yeah, a lot of the drivers don't like the para-tran, but he really enjoys it--his ideal is para-tran and college campus runs for the line haul.  He does about 50/50 paratran/line haul depending on what his 'bid' is for the month.

He *may* occasionally violate rules about walking little old ladies to their door farther than he's 'allowed' :)

  • Yes! I still work in transportation and I know all about those rules, and appreciate those who are willing to bend them.

One of my finest hours in life was when I finally attained the top of the drivers' seniority list, alas but two weeks before I moved across the country. No one could touch me in those two weeks, though. No one.

Our "bids" used to be drivers stabbing other drivers with pens trying to sign up for charters when there weren't enough hours to go around.

  • in theory, he's about 6 months from moving to 'full time'--which is super exciting.

So he's pretty high seniority...among the PTers.  Soon to move to lowest seniority among the full-timers.

    Stabbing with pens...hmmm.

Shortly after he started there was a debacle where someone left a roadkilled animal on a driver's regular chair in the break-room...That sounds a lot like the pen-stabbing :)

LOL. Yes, it's like that. I never stopped for my roadkill anyway. All I ever got was a snake and a rabbit. A squirrel bounced off my windshield on its way down from a tree, which was probably the funniest thing I ever "bagged."

I think we had like 5 break room chairs to about 90 drivers, so that antagonism technique would not have flown.

He is a rebel too.  I like it.  I bet he even sneeks candy into movie theaters.
