very excited for Hanukkah

Ava is getting so excited about Hanukkah - she's naming gifts she wants, and thank goodness, it isn't changing :) I was a little afraid that there would be a new desire every day. I've got 7 of her 8 gifts ready - the elusive spin art is all that's left.

I made arrangements with her pre-k teacher for DH to come in for morning story time and share a Hanukkah book and give out dreidels and gelt (chocolate coins). Ava is thrilled about this. To me, most of the month's activities there center around Christmas, and we're trying to keep Ava excited about Hanukkah too. I thought this was an easy way for her to share her holiday without putting pressure on her teacher to do anything.

We are throwing a friends party too, and I'm looking forward to that, as well as to our family party at my aunt's house, and I think I will likely host my ILs for something too.

Now, poor Sam is a bit overlooked. She's getting some hand me down toys that will be wrapped up. She seriously needs nothing and I don't have the space for things for the sake of having new gifts for her. I'm particularly thrilled about the fisher price learning house that a friend is passing along to us.

I just need to figure out the daycare gifts we are doing, gifts for 2 kid cousins and my niece and nephew, and then I am done!

  • That sounds great!  When I was in elementary school my parents used to come in to the class and read the story of Hanukkah and make potato latkes for everyone.  It's nice to be able to share :)
  • Thats soo cute that your H is doing that!!

Also I just saw in the Christmas Tree Shop add that they have spin art sets for 9.99

  • Kendra told me that yesterday - I'll need to stop there and make sure it's a battery powered one. not too many 4 years olds (or adults) want to pump a spin art - takes a lot of fun out if you ask me!

I've seen parents come in and bring potato latkes for the class.  Everyone enjoys this... especially me because they're one of my favorites!

  • Awwww! I'm excited FOR you! Sounds awesome.
  • Sounds fun!  Keira is getting that same learning house toy.  My mom had bought it for her but I ended up finding it at a consignment store for 15 bucks (my mom had paid $75 for it).  We returned the new one so K is also getting hand me down!  Some of her favorite toys are the ones I paid a few bucks for at the consignment shop- just clean them up a little and they are fine.

  • Love those Hanukkah ideas. I was trying to come up with ideas for my staff to incorporate Hanukkah into after school projects.
