Ruffled Tree Skirt

I came across this picture on Pintrest earlier this week (damn you Pintrest!) and fell in love with this tree skirt. The directions call for using a hot glue gun, which I have one, but I hate using glue.

My big concern is that using glue would work for one year, but the skirt would fall apart in the coming years. Do you think sewing the ruffles would make it more permanent? Anyone have any guess on how long it would take to sew the ruffles?

Assuming you're buying the ruffle trim and not gathering it yourself, I'd use fabric glue.

I think sometimes these bloggers use hot glue just so they can call it "no-sew." Yes, it would hold up better with sewn ruffles, and I think it would actually be faster than hot gluing each and every ruffle. It would go even faster if you had a ruffler foot.

I cannot imagine how painful it would be to hot glue this-- literally, because I always manage to get the burning glue on my fingers, and metaphorically, because it would take SOOOO long. Definitely sew it.

I just made a tiered circle skirt, which reminded me of a tree skirt when I spread it out. It involved a lot of gathering and wasn't difficult. However, it was time consuming!

I would vote for sewing... to speed it up, I'd try gathered stiches to make the ruffles, then just sew them all onto a big flat bottom layer.

I'd be able to go on a murder spree after making that with hot glue. I'd have no finger prints left from them melting off.

I'm an idiot! Sorry. I swore that I saw stitching but upon further inspection I see it's just the fabric fraying..
