How often do you all get your haircut? Do you have highlights - or colored hair? Do you do it yourself? And how often do you have to get it retouched?
I'm considering getting highlights but I hate that I would have to go back and fix the roots often. I've only ever had highlights once in high school and they took FOREVER to grow out. I have colored my hair once, but it was not permanent and washed out in a few weeks (slightly darker red color - my hair is brown normally). I guess you can say I am not very adventurous when it comes to my hair.

Re: Haircuts and Color
I get my hair coloured because otherwise it would be near white all over!!!! My previous natural colour was a dark brown with hints of red in it and that is the colour that I have now (though with a little help!). I have to get the regrowth done every 5 weeks or so (can just about get to 6 weeks, but not going out too often... ;-) ). It has highlights in it, but they are mainly just to break up the colour to make sure it isn't a block of monotone colour as such... only get these redone every third or fourth time of getting the regrowth done.
My hair grows quite quickly which is why I need to get it done that often and the fact that I have dark hair and white regrowth. People with colour not too far from the colour of the growth wouldn't need to get it done as often probably.
And as for a cut, its about one in three months or so. Not even shoulder length
I get my hair cut every 6 months or so, highlights once in awhile. I had some copperish highlights done in September and cut my mid-back length hair to just below my shoulders. Because I'm blond, the highlight growth doesn't show at all.
My hairdresser is just downstairs from us and she actually points out that she needs to trim my bangs for me every few weeks. (she does it for free).
I don't color my hair. I got highlights back in HS and it really wasn't a great look. I think my natural hair color (brown) looks best on me.
I usually cut it every few months. I think the last time I cut it was in August so I'm due. I'll take advantage of MIL being here and schedule an appointment!
You should generally get a trim every 3 - 4 months to keep your split ends managed. I try to stick to that, but sometimes I just get busy lol. I usually just go get my hair cut when I look at myself in the mirror and think "It's a good thing there is no child-services for hair...."
I like my hair long, and generally just get a trim when I go to the salon. My FI doesn't understand the concept of cutting hair to help it grow, lol.
I've colored my hair dark red a few times, but never maintained it. When the roots showed through I'd dye it back to my natural color.

I do a single process blonde. I used to do highlights but went single process because it was cheaper and less time-consuming (the foiling plus process time left me in the chair for 3 hours). I get some regrowth but nothing too offensive because my hair is a light brown.
I think highlights are good if you don't want to have a lot of upkeep, plus the "ombre" grown out highlight look is very "in" right now. I used to get my highlights done every 3-6 months.
I get my haircut every 8-12 weeks, well I try to anyway. I love the way the girl here cuts my hair so I've now been doing it every 8-10.
My hair color is natural. It used to be quite blonde, but now is a dark blonde/light brown. I have a lot of hair and am also too nervous to do highlights and have to pay for the upkeep. Last time I was talking to the hair dresser about wishing I could get my hair color to not be quite so dull, so she suggested a shampoo they have. Basically they mix together a shampoo with some hair dye I guess, so it's kind of like a temporary color thing. If I use it 1-2 days in a row, it does brighten up my hair color a little and it was only 12pounds, it's enough to satisfy me.
In the states John Freida sells a color glaze and that combined with the shampoos have also made a difference when I used them.
I've gotten my hair highlighted for years, but I get highlights that are quite close to my natural color. They make a lot of difference, brighten up my hair, but it is so close to my natural color that you can't really tell if I have roots.
I probably get my hair cut and colored every 6 months. I'm trying to be better about it, but I just don't get around to it as often as I'd like.
