My credit card info was skimmed :(
Luckily, I caught it pretty quickly. I logged on to my cc account this morning, and noticed $367 in gasoline charges from 4 transactions. I called my cc company, and they noticed that there were another batch of gasoline charges that hadn't posted yet. Close to $700 in gas. Who uses that much in 2 days?!?!? Thankfully, my fraud protection on the card covers me, but now I'm super skeeved to use my card anywhere. It either happend when we were at a restaurant for dinner over the weekend, or one of the many times I used the pump-and-pay at the gas station.
Re: My credit card info was skimmed :(
Yuck, that sucks!
H's card got jacked a year ago. Luckily the person only spent 9.99 at iTunes. It was his debit card, so we would have been really hurt if they had taken more.
My Profile
That happend to my mom a few years ago. She used the card at an unfamiliar diner, and within a week, there was $500 in charges for restaurants in the area. As a waitress, I know all to well how easy it is for someone to get your card info.
When you get your credit card slips back, look at the line that has the type of card you used on it. There should be a bunchs of XXXXXs, and the last 4 digits. If all the digits are there, cross out everything but the last 4. Having you whole card number and your signature is a recipe for disaster.
i'm sorry :-(
my h went to the gas station once and someone approached him and asked him if he was paying cash. when he said yes they asked him to pump at a certain pump and they would give him more gas for his cash (like fill up $20 for $10). stupidly, he did it. he realized after it was probably a scam with someone else's card. so probably in your case they were buying gas for other people and pocketing the cash.
I've never had this happen to me, KNOCK ON WOOD!!! I can imagine how badly it sucks though.
My coworker shared with me that her husband's card was stolen. There was about $3,000+ charges of gas and a rental car!!! She went to reserve a rental car for T-day travels, and that's when she found out. "Sorry ma'am, we can't rent you a new car until you return the previous rental." WTF!? Unreal.
