How many presents from Santa?
My stepdaughters are 9 and 10. My DH does not like doing the whole Santa thing, he thinks its lying to the kids but he goes along with it because their mom has done the Santa thing. He is very involved with the girls and he usually gets the big present and I pick out smaller stuff. This year thy are getting netbooks, a down comforter and duvet (they've been asking for all three things for years). DH doesn't want Santa to "get credit" for the netbooks. SD10 saw the big box arrive with the comforters and once she sees the big comforters she will know that we bought them, she's pretty observant. So that leaves he duvet covers and a board game for each kid. The board game is already wrapped from Santa. Should I make the duvet cover from Santa too? Is two gifts from Santa enough or should I get some smaller gifts from Santa?
Re: How many presents from Santa?
IDK my parents had money when we were growing up and they were Christmas crazy so we got a ton of Santa gifts, but I think it all depends on what the kids are used to.
If they usually get 20 Santa presents, they will be disappointed. But if they usually get 2, then they'll be happy. kwim?
In our home Santa only brings 1 gift per kid and fills the stocking with goodies. I've never heard of Santa bringing more than one gift per kid.
You have got to be kidding me.
BBE is right. It's all about precedence. When I was a kid, stockings and all the fun big stuff was from Santa. Mom and Dad gave us one or two smaller gifts. Usually clothes.
In your case, the netbooks would have been from Santa. The duvet cover would be from Mom and Dad because I saw the box. The board game probably would have been from M &D. Then our stockings would have been full of school supplies and chocolate. But, everyone does it differently.
The kids are getting one present from Santa (each). That's how we've done it every year so far (well, this will be the third year total). DS is only 2 1/2, so it's not like he'll notice or care, but I doubt we'll change things in the future. Maybe we'll do stocking stuff and then one present from Santa. That seems reasonable.
My parents did gifts from Santa with a hint as to what was inside the package. Like the stuffed seal I got when I was 8 was from Santa ocean. Nothing was ever from just Santa. My mom still does it even though as the youngest in my family I'm 26. It's a tradition I might use when I have kids.
A handful of things were from Santa to answer your original question.
My 8 year old still believes, and my 11 year old just found out the truth last year. He came to us at the age of 10 and asked for an honest answer, because the kids in school were so divided about it, some friends believed, others did not.
