FTS!!! +TMI

I am beyond frustrated. 2 weeks ago I started a 10 day supply of an antibiotic. Well, on the last day I started to develop a yeast infection, which is a possible side effect. I've been using monistat 7. I'm "suppose" to be ovulating this weekend. My opk surge should be today. The advise nurse said I can and should still have sex. DH will be fine and it just depends how I feel. Well, I am pretty sore. I don't want to do the deed, but I don't want to skip a month either. I think I'm going to lend DH and hand until we are at the point to make a deposit ;) But even that is going to be painful.

On top of that, I forgot to do my opk's until yesterday. I hope I didn't miss it. If I don't get a surge today, should I DTD tonight anyways in case I did miss it? Or wait, and hope the surge is tomorrow, giving me an extra day to heal?

I also recently learned that I am an idiot. We always use a flavored lubricant. I figured since it didn't have spermicide it was fine. Well, apparently that "could be" why we haven't conceived yet. Blah! At least I know now.

If you made it this far, thanks.  And this stress can't possibly be helping the matter :(

  • BUMMER! I say if you're up for it, DTD tonight!

FYI, next time you're on an antibiotic take a probiotic with it. Antibiotics kill off the good stuff too, so the probiotic helps you stay balanced and will most likely prevent yeast infections from happening. :-)

  • From a TTC perspective, you should DTD tonight and tomorrow and every night until you get a positive OPK and then a negative one, indicating you did in fact ovulate. The more sex the better!

But, at the same time, if you are in pain, even if your DH just does a deposit, you are prob going to be tense and that is going to make conditions pretty unfavorable. Plus you will probably then be in even MORE pain afterwards, which won't be good for DTD tomorrow.

So, maybe your best bet is to wait and see if you get the positive OPK today. If not, skip tonight to give yourself the extra day. Tough situation, I hope your body cooperates with you!!!

  • Bummer - sorry this is coming at such a bad time!

You've gotten good advice so far, but I wanted to let you know re: the lube - we read the same thing when we started our TTC journey, but we're big on using it.  As a substitute we've just been using water.  It doesn't last as long but just keep a cup on the nightstand and dip your hand in when necessary.  HTH!

Coconut oil makes the best lube ever. No joke. Super bonus that it smells amazing and it's super cheap!

  • Jennrs, I started taking acidophilus pills 4 days after I started my antibiotics (kept forgetting to pick some up).  I'm still taking them. My dad is all about natural remedies, herbs and supplements so I've grown up with things of that nature.

Katiedom, Thanks for your advice. I'm hoping I get a + today so I don't have to make any judgement calls myself.

I got pre seed lube to try. It was pricey but it's suppose to be fertility friendly.  Thanks for the suggestion re: water and coconut oil.

I agree with everything Jennrs said!  I am also on an antibiotic and I'm dreading the possibility of a yeast infection so I'm taking acidophilus tabs... hopefully that helps!

I defintiely say dtd tonight if you can manage it.

  • I feel you on the yeast infection thing. I ended a 7 day dose of antibiotics a week ago and, of course, now have a yeast infection. The only problem is that my sinus infection never went away so my dr prescribed another round of antibiotics... BLAH!

Maybe I'll pick up some of those probiotics at the store tomorrow morning.

I hope you feel better soon... and I'd go ahead and DTD if you can. September babies are great ;)

I was just going to suggest pre-seed. It took 10 months to get pregnant with Isabella and we were on our first month using pre-seed...maybe that's what helped?

  • I've also heard canola seed is ok.

Personally, I'd just rest and wait until the next cycle.  I'm not a pleasant person if I'm in pain and it's not enjoyable at all.
