Let me preface by saying I was SPOILED being a patient out at C.CRM in Colorado. The nurses are so responsive--they will always call back within 24 hours (usually same day) and I can also EMAIL my nurse and get a response even within a few hours.
I called my OBGYN's office
yesterday before noon and left a message because I had some questions
for a nurse. I still hadn't heard anything, so when I got home today I
called back again at 4:35...to find out that on Fridays they close at
4:30.
Now the earliest I will hear back is Monday--FOUR days after I called
them. And it was a question about an antibiotic they put me on...by
Monday I'll be pretty much done with it.
This on top of the fact that at our first appointment we were there 2.5 hours. My 10am ultrasound ended up happening at around 10:45, and then they told us they "didn't have a room" for us yet. Then we were told by another lady that the doctor had gotten called to the hospital for a c-section...Yet, while I was back at my ultrasound we heard someone should, "Dr. V wants to know where Pasquale's is!" (Which we took to mean he was on the road, stopping to pick up lunch, and was--hopefully--coming back soon.) They told us he should be back by 11:30am and we were going to be the first patient he saw...We didn't get seen until noon.
I'm just overall frustrated. I worked SO hard to get pregnant, and now that I'm at the point where I'll be graduating from the RE I can't even get my OBGYN's attention. Am I overreacting, and this is just normal and I need to get used to it? Or am I justified in being frustrated here?!
ETA: I emailed my nurse (in COLORADO) around 5pm last night--3pm their time. Within two hours I had a response back. I find it crazy that my nurse two time zones away can answer my questions (very sympathetically I might add) before a nurse five miles from my house can.
Re: XP: Is this normal? OBGYN question
First off: Congrats! H&H 9 months!
Second: wow, I would be frustrated too, my OB nurse was always prompt at getting back to me. As for your appt., I've had a few times I've waited 2 hrs, but usually it was because 1 doctor had to do a delivery, so they were short 1 doctor for the patients of all 3 doctors. Didn't happen alot, but that's the nature of the business, I always just told myself, one day I will be at the hospital & may be taking the doctor away from their normal patients. But I'd be frustrated w/what you described. I usually try to get the 1st appt. of the day if possible, or close to it.
I would call 1st thing on Monday morning, even leave a message now and then call Monday & tell them your frustrations with them. If this is common for them, it's going to be a long 9 months for you.
GL & Congrats again!
Congratulations!!!! I'm so excited for you!!
I don't think you're overreacting at all. My Dr. and her entire office staff were wonderful for both pregnancies. I never waited more than about 10 minutes for an appt., my Dr. was always very attentive and warm. The nurses were all sweet and helpful, and I never had to wait more than a few hours for a call back when I left a message. The office does close at noon on Fridays.
Moral of the story, is that pregnancy causes a rollercoaster of new emotions and fears and you certainly don't need additional worry caused by your OBGYN office. I don't know what area you're in, but my Dr. works out of Canton (Cherry Hill/Ridge) and is WONDERFUL. They discovered that I had a large ovarian tumor when I was 13 weeks pregnant and she performed the surgery to remove it. It was a very scary time and I was able to stay relatively calm about it all, due in part to my awesome Dr.'s reassurance and the office's staff's prompt response to my calls.
Good luck to you!
I would talk to them first and if things don't improve or they seem to not care when you talk to them I would look for someone new. You don't want to have to deal with that madness every time you have to go in.
Good luck! And congrats on the baby
