Vampire Diaries fans?
I've just started this show, I'm almost done with the first season and I am dying to know: do they ever explain why Catherine and her progeny can walk around in daylight? I know that the Salvatores have the rings, but in the flashbacks with Catherine it doesn't look like she has a ring, and neither does that girl (Anna?) or her mom. I don't think the newly risen black guy has one either, but I'm not sure. Or maybe I'm blind and they have all had rings.
I don't want to Google because I don't want to see any huge spoilers. Someone just tell me if they ever say. I don't even need to know WHAT the reason is, I just really need to know if I will eventually find out or if this show is going to piss me off 'Lost'-style.

I don't remember about Anna and her mom, but I know Catherine's is explained. You might have missed it. I can't remember what episode its explained in. Its not some big thing though. I think its just mentioned in passing.
ETA: TVD has tons of cliffhangers and "OMG!" moments, but everything ends up getting explained at some point.

Just wait until the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3. I spazz out in my front of my tv every week. I never see any of the shocking stuff coming!
