We built our house, and also bought it. :P
Awesome! Did you go to any websites that will let you "build" an online "home"?
We bought our first house existing - lived there for 6 years and sold it (we sold this year). We planned to live there 5-7 years, and then buy something bigger once we were more established in our careers and could afford more.
We are building our long-term house now - with a production builder rather than custom. It boiled down to the fact that the better lots/locations were owned by the production builder. The lots that the custom builder had left in the area we wanted were awful (corner by the entrance of the neighborhood, overlooking busy roads).
Did you by chance use KB?
We're building our 2nd house. I prefer existing. I told H since the beginning I wanted existing, but he wanted a new home. Tried to go with spec home, but we were not happy with what we saw.
We're now in the process of building our custom home. Too much headache for me! This is why I prefer existing. lol. I hope it's worth it though.
