how to store all the clothes

Okay, it getting ridiculous the amount of clothes Lyra has. So how does everyone store the outgrown clothes? Each week I have a pile to take to the basement to store. We already have a bunch in totes but I don't want to invest in a bunch more totes as they are cheap. Trash bags? And no I'm not ready to sell yet, probably next year. This girl has over 23 pairs of pants in 12 months size that she hasn't out grown yet, I'd like to have 5 pairs of pants that actually fit me and aren't sweats!

Re: how to store all the clothes

  • I bought some of the vacuum seal bags from Wal-Mart.  They worked pretty well at first, but now aren't holding air, and when I go to open them for Isla, the zippy thing is breaking.  I've just started using trash bags and labeling the size on the outside.  I really would like more of the vacuum bags, but haven't ordered decent ones online yet.
  • I use Space Bags. They work great! I still have some of B's clothes and now am using them for b's clothes, too.

  • We used totes but first I went through and took out everything that I wasn't going to save for another child. Some stuff was ugly, didn't fit well, worn out, etc. I consigned, donated or tossed it. That helped keep my numbers down. I think we have 3 totes total and that includes my pump and all accessories.

  • I had 7-8 totes full, plus some for E's first 3 years.

Ditto K, consign stuff you know you won't use again or is not your style.

  • A few weeks ago, I went through both kids' clothes, sorted by size & gender, and pulled out the gender neutral stuff. I'm not ready to part with anything quite yet, even though I know I wouldn't reuse everything when we have a third. So, I put everyhing in garbage bags and labeled it. Easy and cheap!

  • I have tubs and tubs of stuff. I recently went through and sorted out everything that I didn't like that much and downsized a lot. I went from having a 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 tubs to having a 0-6, 6-12, etc. I still have a lot of tubs though. I just can't justify getting ready of a ton of stuff because we are still on the fence about #3.

  • This summer I had a garage sale and decided to put EVERYTHING out except the outfits that the kids came home in and anything J could still use. I got rid of a bunch of stuff but still have a lot left. I'm hoping to tag the rest for E's sale. If i didn't have to have a space for a sewing room, I would have plenty of room to store totes. Unfortunately, my "sewing room" is in the storage room so space is limited :) We haven't completely ruled out #3 but if we did have one and it was a boy, Owen's things would be 5+ years old and J's things i haven't really been attached to.

We do totes but obviously i'm limiting them....or trying to! Oh, and if you don't care on the color, Menards has the red/green ones for 3.99 right now. I know they had the black/orange ones on sale for 3.88 but obviously that was oct/nov and over. That's about as cheap as i've seen them.

  • Thanks--I think trash bags it is. I've already pulled the things I don't like but the rest is still out of control. Oh, first child spoilage from the grandparents!
