Can someone distract me?

H is coming home tomorrow from a training trip after two and a half months and I'm stuck at work trying to keep myself from pacing in circles in excitement. Ask me questions to keep me sane, pretty please?

Re: Can someone distract me?

  • What sort of risky business do you engage in?
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • You can come fold my laundry. Cool I don't know why but I hate folding laundry.
  • I'll send you my stressed out mini dachshund for the day if you would like. He will keep you entertained and it will allow me to work on job apps with out him sitting in my lap barking at the trees moving outside.

    What's your favorite ice cream?

  • The screen name is actually a play on part of my last name. I engage in the risky businesses of wine drinking and traveling. So really, I'm a lot more boring than my name, since that is all I came up with.

ETA: I like skydiving, that counts as risky, right? Right?

I would love to borrow your dachshund! We're currently dogless, but planning to get one as soon as we more :)

My favorite icecream is definitely chocolate expresso mochi icecream. Moosetracks is a close second though.

I'm currently procrastinating folding some new merchandise at the store I manage, so no dice on the folding. I'm with you on that dislike. Wink

  • Do you manage a nat'l chain? If it's lululemon, can you share some super awesome discount codes?

Nope, it's a small giftshop of logo merchandise for a reality tv show. I deal with insane fans all day. Yesterday an elderly woman with a cane threatened me to give her my bosses phone number. Good times.

What a weird store to work in! It's probably the only one, so you shouldn't tell us, but I'm very curious.

It's definitely an experience! And you are correct, there are only two locations, hence my lacking of naming names. By the way, I just had to google what this lululemon is, and I am adding some stuff to my Christmas list for the hubby Big Smile

Dang well it doesn't hurt to try.

What's your favorite kind of pop? My H likes to mix half diet coke with reg. coke.

Diet Coke. I drink Diet Coke like it going out of style. I like the mixing half and half idea, interesting! What's your favorite kind?

  • Maryboo, I have to give you a gold star for time-wasting... that blog ate up at least an hour of my time today! Freakin awesome! Thanks :)

As for my life story, I'm from Chicago, currently living in Hawaii. Moved to Hawaii to finish out my degree on a scholarship, while I was doing that I met my H who is in the Navy, few years later we are still here but planning to move to Austin in a few months. The husband gets out of the military this summer. My first language was Polish, and most of my family lives in Poland. My favorite things to do include reading, sewing, traveling, drinking tequila, jumping out of planes, and cooking. I love retro style clothing and watch my favorite shows weekly on Hulu because I am a little obsessed. The husband and I plan to buy a German wire haired Griffon puppy when we move.

That's about the gist of it, thanks for asking. I look forward to getting to know more about you all, it's about time I stopped being a creeper and lurking silently :)

What's the plan when your H gets out of the military?

Nice :) I never thought I'd miss Chicago, but after living on an island for almost 4 years, I would kill for the shows, festivals, etc. that Chitown had to offer.

As for when H gets out, we're moving to Austin, TX. He's going to finish business school using his GI Bill (he's already knocked out a chunk of classes while in the Navy), and I'm going to try to settle into a job that's more in line with where I want my career to go. I'll probably go get my Master's after he's done with school.

We're a little bit nervous about both getting out of jobs where our combined income is about 120K a year, but the cost of living out here is so high that we should actually be better off in the long run. We plan to buy a house when we move, already saved up for a down payment, and the mortgage on a 2500 sq foot house in Austin is about two thirds of the rent we pay on a one bedroom apartment Tongue Tied Ridiculous.

Do you still live in Chicago?

Do you still live in Chicago?

Nope!  I'm AD AF, haven't lived in Chicago since 2000.  I only visit every few years and I don't plan to return when we retire.

I haven't been to Texas other than for basic training, but I hear good things from people who've actually lived there!

  • Austin is Ah.May.Zing!!! I loved it there, and it is the only metropolitan area I would ever consider living in again!! Good food, good music, good people, good weather. The only thing I hated was the traffic, but you can't win them all I guess.

I hear you, as much as I love going back to IL to visit family, I don't think I could ever be convinced to live with those winters again!

I was there for New Year's last year and I loved it! The traffic was pretty bad, but not any worse than Honolulu so I don't think that will be too much of a shock for me :)

I've been thinking about it and when I was there I think the freeway system was under construction, so traffic may have improved too. Either way, it's probably not too bad if you're used to city traffic, at that point in my life I wasn't so it seemed especially horrendous...lol
