I got laid off three months ago, husband just laid off

I heard today that my husband got laid off.  I lost my job in October and it is ending on December 29.  I've had four interviews, but because they are with city and colleges it may take awhile to hear back from anyone.  I have another interview next week.  I am hoping to hear something.  He is meeting with another dealership Monday to see if they would hire him.  I have to do something about this hopeless feeling.  :(

  • I'm so sorry. I doubt that anything I say would make you feel better.

Hang in there...keep trying and you'd get a job! You already had many interviews, which tells me that you have an impressive resume. Right now with the holidays, it doesn't surprise me if you haven't heard anything from your interview. You may hear good news after the holidays!

I'm crossing my fingers for you and your husband! Good luck!

  • Thank you so much.  I am slightly hopeful, but feel rather helpless when it comes down to it.  I have had quite a few call backs, but many of the positions I applied for ended around Thanksgiving, so I'm hoping the HR is taking awhile to disseminate information to the departments.  I know for the interviews I have had so far they probably wouldn't hire until Jan 1.  Thankfully, he has a meeting with someone Monday and I can't imagine they wouldn't hire him.  I mean, the person said to bring his resume and they would, "see what they could do for him."  So, that sounds good I guess.

    Thanks for the good vibes!

  • wishing you and your husband the best of luck, meg!
  • Ugh!  Keep your head up.  I know it's hard to do, but try.

DH and I BOTH got laid off when I was pregnant.  It was a very scary time.  We were both rehired before DS arrived though.

  • I live 2 hours north of you, and jobs are hard to come by. Keep going. You will find something. It seems like a lot of places hire right before or after Christmas.

  • Update:  They didn't have a position open.  He's going to make a few calls today to some other guys and dealerships in the area, but I don't know.  It doesn't look great.  I have another interview tomorrow.  Thanks for the kind words.  It really helps.

  • Keep your head up! Is there anything you can do to make money while you interview? (babysitting here and there, holiday retail?) I mean, it's not ideal, but some money is still money, IMO

  • Yeah, I'm thinking of hitting up the mall and see if they are hiring.  Once upon a time, I worked at Lane Bryant and Macy's.  I could make it work again!

  • Oh and I am still working.  My last day is the end of the month, so I'll have one more paycheck into January.  Hopefully, I will hear back from one of the interviews by then.
