In the past I have had my 3rd grade class decorate gingerbread houses for our holiday party. I'm not in the mood for them this year.
Does anyone have an idea for an easy craft that's also easy on the wallet?
Also, it needs to be "winter themed" but not xmas themed

Re: holiday craft ideas?
I think what kids like about the ginger bread houses is that they get to decorate with candy and frosting.
Maybe a candy train project? Each kid can decorate a train car and make one big class train? Or a candy tree or something like that?
Or maybe life size snowmen, each kid/pair of kids can do a life size snow man out of butcher paper but decorate it with things, pictures, etc that represent them?

I did these with first graders. You don't need the kit for them, you can just get all of the supplies. They were fun, and not too difficult. I hope the link works!

Another I bet that one would only be good if you had some stuff cut out or traced ahead of time.

These are my favorite and they taste yummy!
These are super cute
(Keep in mind I have no idea what type of things 3rd graders can do - sorry if I am totally off base)
