Christmas poll

Last year, XH and I had just separated. We were trying to decide what to do with the house (I was staying there at the time). And I did not feel like messing with it at all. This year, I'm really looking forward to Christmas! I had the best Thanksgiving I have had in a very long time and am expecting Christmas to be about the same. So it got me thinking, what is everyone doing?

Re: Christmas poll

  • The tree is up and I put my Christmas village up for the first time since 2009. Well, almost my entire village - don't quite have enough space for it all. Beyond that, no other decorations.

This isn't my first year without XH though so I might be in a different boat.

  • I originally was not going to decorate this year because I really don't have space to store it. I even went so far as to donate all my stuff to goodwill over the summer before my parents moved (they were my storage for a bit lol). However, I have now bought a tree, made a pretty wreath for my front door, have some garland on my balcony with pretty red bows along with several other things in my apartment.

Although I get bummed sometimes that I don't have that many friends, I've really realized in the past few months that the ones I do have are absolutely amazing and I couldn't imagine my life without them. Not to mention, among my friends and I there isn't the drama that I usually have to deal with when spending holidays with family. So, I'm in more of a holiday mood than I have been in a very long time!

I actually was having issues creating the poll and retyped it a couple time...I meant to also add if you live by yourself, not necessarily if it is your first Christmas without XH :)

And I LOVE the Christmas villages!! Although, there is no way I would have room for that kind of thing.

  • I've rented my entire adult life, so my place has never really, truly felt like "mine."  Add this to the fact that I've always lived by myself, and I've never felt the desire to really decorate for the holidays--doesn't seem worth it when it's just me.  I own a little mini stocking, and that's about it.
  • I voted, "other". Really didn't/don't have any interest in thanksgiving or Christmas, but I decorated because I hosted t-day. Started fresh with a lot of things though, it was hard looking at our holiday stuff so I donated most of it.

  • This is my 2nd Christmas with BF, but last year we were in Disney for Thanksgiving and then I traveled a few weekends in December for work, so we put up a tree but that was all. This year we have 2 trees (1 real, 1 fake) and have decorated the entire house together. I've gotten to participate in his family traditions that we missed out on last year, which has been a lot of fun. I've definitely enjoyed making new traditions and finding ways to enjoy the holidays since XH, even before I was with BF.
  • I'm Jewish so we don't decorate but SIL invited me over to do their tree after o told her that I'd love to be able to have my own and do a theme every year.  Doubt I'll go, it should be their tree, not mine.

  • I decorated last year and I feel like I want to decorate this year but that would involve me having to find a tree and that's where the whole plan falls apart for me cause I am more than a little bit lazy. I might make myself go out this weekend and pick up some lights at least. And I have a wreath up.

  • SS - We still live in the stupid camper because our house is taking so long ugh! I am not in the Christmas spirit AT ALL because of the mess with all of this... Even if I was in the mood we can't really afford to buy decorations and we have absolutely no place to put them. Maybe next year.
  • I voted "My entire place is decked out" but I disclaim that it is L's house that is decked out...figured it was too much work to put up a tree and decorate at both my place and his.

  • I'm living with my folks, so I'm in a teeny space (plus there is more decor upstairs) -- I did put up my small apartment sized tree and a few little decorations that I love, not too over the top though.
