So what are you doing for XMAS?

Are you throwing them a party like this?

I wish I was invited to something like this as kid. Where do people find the time and motivation?

Re: So what are you doing for XMAS?

  • I'm going to refrain from commenting more than just "wow" about that.

Up here, we'll stuff ourselves silly with GrandmaIL1 on the 24th and 25th. Then, more gluttony the 31st and 1st. Finally, we'll likely have another family meal on the 6th or 7th. Christmas in the north makes you good and fat!

  • Holy moly. Seriously - I'm not talented at crafts and this kind of thing always makes me feel a mix of awe combined with "less is more" that just stems from my jealousy that other people can do it and I can't.

  • I love her blog. When she wrote about the birth of her 2nd child it touched my heart.

I would totally do something like this when I have young kids. I love fun little parties like this!

  • Wow!  That totally puts the 1hr that H and I just spent building our crap Xmas tree to shame!  I think I want that woman to run my life :).

That said, 1hr into it, the halls are about as decked as they're getting.  I've got a work trip to Crete the 19-23rd (awesome timing), so we'll just spend Xmas quietly at home.  First time H and I have spent Xmas at home in 11yrs of Christmases.  Weird.

Anyway, my BFF flies in on the 29th, so hoping to spend NYE in either Rome or Tuscany.  Will come back to work, but then she and I are heading to Morocco the first weekend in Jan.  I'm pretty psyched for that trip.  Makes up for my lack of Christmas enthusiasm.

To be honest, I'm thinking alot about my sister and really wish I had known about the diagnosis earlier because I/we would have gone home (she'll likely be starting chemo around Dec 16).  She goes pretty all out herself for Xmas and I know it's annoyed her that I haven't gone home the last couple years.  My logic's always been-- oh I'll be back in a couple years, what's the big deal?  Yeah, so now I feel stupid and bad.  I'll probably try to go back in Feb.

  • Amazing!!   I would be utterly exhausted trying to pull something like that together and it would never look nearly as good.  She clearly is gifted in hospitality and you can tell she gets energized by it.

  • We are going to my mom and dad's apartment for the day and possibly the night before too. DH has to work (he will get double time and a half since its a holiday!) so we will probably do presents when he gets there around 3pm. Then we will have a big dinner.
  • I so want to do something like that one day - assuming I can ever have the resources lol.

This Christmas will be a small family affair. Just me and my parents and sister. It's my last at home so I'm going to try to make the most of it. FI won't be here until mid-January but that's okay, I'll have him for Valentines Day : )

I know it sounds strange but I miss working on Christmas - it was the only day that working at Dunkins was worth it! People would give amazing tips that day...

  • Wow!  I have no idea how people find the time to do stuff like that.  The green-eyed monster in me is going to go with she has a lot of time and help and $ at her disposal considering the house she lives in.

Christmas we're going to the States!  I'm so not looking forward to the travelling but I'm happy to be going home this year.  I loathe spending Christmas here in England.  It's just not the same.

  • We are going to Sydney to spend Xmas and New Years with them.

I always find it strange being in summer for Xmas...

  • DH and I will spend Christmas here on our own, which has become our little tradition since moving.  Plus...we have our cat to keep us company.  Then, on the 26th, we leave for Switzerland (also with said cat) for a week of relaxation in the Alps!

Aww enjoy your time in the Alps. I miss seeing them and think about the views a lot. If I could buy a vacation home it would be a chalet in the Alps. So where are you headed!? Either way I'm sure it will be gorgeous.

  • We're having a small Christmas, just DH, I and Georgia. It'll be the first time its just us. Last year, my brother was here visiting and DH's family arrived on Boxing Day. It'll probably be a bit lonely. I love doing the big family thing.

  • I can't even imagine finding the time to do something like that.  It blows my mind.

We're sticking around London.  As my ILs don't really celebrate Christmas, we're going to another teacher's house for dinner...they take in strays! ;-)  And we have a bunch of plans for the weeks around the holidays...Secret Cinema, a trip to visit a northern friend, London markets, etc.

Allibally - We'll be staying in Brienz (I think), in a rental apartment on the lake.  We're taking the cat...god help us.

Very nice. The town looks cute and quiet! Sounds relaxing minus any cat issues. Guessing you've never driven this far with the cat?
