Re: What kind of degree?

  • I work with lawyers, plus secretaries plus my direct staff - so its people w/ masters/JD degrees, people w/ a high school diploma, some staff w/ Master's and some w/ just Bachelor's like me.  That's the most challenging part of my job, is constantly adjusting the message for people's different roles.

  • My job requires just an associates degree although it is possible to get your bachelors also. The majority of people I work with have an associates, but I have a bachelors in another field. To do my job, I actually went back to school after getting my bachelors to get my associates in this field.

  • the majority of people i work with have a BS at the least, many have MS and phd's.

I have a BS in civil engineering

  • I don't really know the answer to my own question! Everyone here has a Bachelors and I suspect that about half also have a Masters. I was just talking to my coworker and I thought he was working on his Masters but it turns out its a PhD. I feel like a slacker with only a Bachelors.

  • The majority of people in my office have a master's degree and those who don't are actively looking at schools to get their master's degree.
  • My job has a couple of different levels of people. My direct colleagues with the same/similar position ALL have Master's degrees (it's a requirement for the job). The other staffer have college degrees (I think there might be 1 or 2 who only have "some college", but are working on their degrees). For the other staffer positions, they need to have at least a HS diploma. Also, many of those staffers are working on their Master's degrees and have taken the positions for their tuition benefit and the experience that they can get, which will help them get a different position when they finish their Master's degrees.

  • I work for a magazine, and I have a bachelor's of arts in journalism. From what I have heard, everyone in this company from the receptionist to the publisher must have a bachelor's degree, and the publisher will not look at your resume if you don't have one.

Edited: I don't know of anyone in the company that has a master's degree. When I worked at a newspaper, I had a couple of coworkers that either had a master's degree in journalism or were working on a communications-related master's degree. In the media industry, a master's degree is generally considered unnecessary unless you're changing your career path to a more corporate position or a public policy position.
  • I would say it's about half BS half MA (although we have a few JD's, but not as lawyers, just people with JD's that got into this field of work).

  • I work for a large adminsitration so there's a huge range, but I'd say that the majority of my direct co-workers (my guess is 4 out of 5 people) have a master's degree.  There are a few MDs and PhDs.  I have a master's degree.

  • My boss and I both have bachelor's, one coworker has an associates and the other has none. And they all make more then I do. :(

  • Everyone has a Bachelor's but we are required to get our Master's in 10 years from hire.  We can go beyond that.

  • I have my PhD and I mostly work with people who have PhDs, MDs, or a few have PharmD or MS.

  • I bartend- so most are in high school or college. Of those past college age, one had a degree and is trying to find a position, 2 have degrees but are the owners, and the others do not have degrees.

I have a BS and am putting it to good use ;-)

  • Mixed bag here - people either are lawyers, or have their bachelor's with lots of experience at the agency, or no degree (maybe an associates) but again, experience at the agency.

  • I'm not sure what the administrative staff has here. But I think a few at least heave their Bachelors, A few might not have anything since I'm sure they've been with the state since before the requirement to have a degree. My boss has her masters and I have two bachelors. Other than that I deal with grad students, post docs and professors. So it runs the whole gamut here.

  • 90% of the people in my building have their Bachelors...the other 10% are either a trade school, military or came up through the secretary pool out of high school.

I know maybe a handful of people here who have their Masters...it doesn't really help if you area already on board.  But I do know that they are almost requiring it now to be hired on.
