I would really like to lose 10-15 pounds to put me at my prepregnancy weight. Here is the thing...how do working mothers have time to work out? I don't have time in the morning. I have a half hour for lunch which is my time to run errands. Then I get out at 4:00 but I feel so guilty about leaving Abe at daycare all day that I run right over to get him. When it was mild/warm/hot and light out we would go for walks after work. Now it is dark. And cold. Seth gets home from work at 7:00. I'm kind of screwed until April.
I've never done a weight loss program. WW has crossed my mind a couple times. Does it really work? I'm skeptical it will work for a foodie. I am not eating the crap they put in a box.
Re: s/o Getting Fit (time?? where is it?)
I was wondering the same thing. By the time I pick up DD, I'll get home at 6 (estimated... will find out today when I pick her up for the first time) and some days DH is home/ others, he's traveling. I figured she's tiny enough right now that I can use her as my weight but that will change soon enough. I also want to spend my evenings with her so I don't want to strap her in the swing and ignore her for half an hour or so. Maybe after she goes to bed? I'm curious to hear what others have to say!
I've done WW before and lost some weight-- I'm just too lazy to count points. They remodeled their program but I had a huge problem with it when I went to the meetings and they talked about their processed junk. I think they've got away from that now from what I understand.
I am also one who just doesn't have time to work out either. When I leave work, it's all about the boys.
I am on WW. When I stick to it (mainly tracking what I eat) I do great, however I have fallen off the wagon some, and still have 10 pounds to get to my pre-pregnancy weight, and about 25 more after that.
I can tell you that I do like the new WW program better. You can eat whatever you want, but just have to hold yourself accountable for it. Fruits are free points (which is a great thing), and most veggies are. I find that I tend to opt for a piece of fruit now, vs something else. They still offer lots of things in boxes, however you do not have to use them. They are usually higher in sodium anyway. My theory is if you stick to the outside aisle of the grocery store vs the inner aisles (where most of your boxed stuff is), you can follow the plan easily. I have lost 20 lbs on WW so far.
After bed is an option, but I don't do well working out at night. So in my non-pg days, when got too dark to walk/jog in the afternoon I would do a workout DVD in the morning before work and getting him up. Yeah, it sucks at 4:45 or 5am, but it was great to get it out of the way. There are a lot of DVDs, like Jillian Michael's ones, that you can get a good workout in 30 minutes or so.
Tracking calories on Lose It or My Fitness Pal worked well for me in the past too.
ETA: Like Annie, I definitely only worked out 3-4 times a week. Although Eli also loves going in the stroller (with snacks and warm gear) getting in a solo jog on the weekend was a priority. He also used to love watching me do a DVD (now not so much!) so that made the afternoon more possible. Just gotta find what works for you and your little ones.
I have time in the morning, but there is NO WAY I can drag my a** out of bed to go workout! I love watching the news in bed and drinking a cup of coffee before hopping in the shower so that's out. I pick 2 days a week that I don't rush home to get Nolan. I do about a 30 minute jog so he's not a daycare that much later than normal. Also, his daycare is in a great neighborhood so sometimes I park in her driveway and run right from there. That way I save on my driving time. Sometimes Joe will drop the stroller off for me and I job with him in her neighborhood. I pack him a snack to keep him busy and bundle him up with a blanket. He's usually fine and the weather has been pretty mild. Where Abe's daycare is has pretty decent streets for walking. We usually include the Gardiner Farm in our loop.
On the weekends, I try to squeeze one run in. On days that I don't feel like dressing for the weather, I do my workout inside in the living room with Jillian's 30 Day Shred. It's pretty good for a 20 minute workout. Nolan is highly entertained watching me and now he tries to join in with the jumping.
So that being said, I'm only working out 3 days a week, but at least it's something and I'm maintaining my weight where I feel comfortable in my skin. I will never be the weight I was pre-preg. That required 45 minutes to an hour every day of exercise. It was awesome to be that great in shape, but I just don't have that kind of time anymore and I don't have that "drive" anymore either. I still love running, but I'm not obsessed with it like I was. I'm also not sad that I'm only 12 pounds heavier than I was at that weight either. And I'm eating pretty much whatever I want, not that I'm going overboard. When I was watching what I ate before, I made sure I had at least 5 fruits and veggies a day, most of my carbs in the morning, and I used a calorie counting website to keep track which REALLY helped out. I still ate what I wanted within reason, I just realized that I had to adjust my portions. I only used the website for a few months before I was able to do it in my head. It just helped open my eyes about my intake.
Good luck! I hate wrestling with weight and exercise, especially when I'm a tired Momma!
Where I work from home, I think it's going to be a bit easier. The treadmill is going into our bedroom, which is on the same floor as my office. I have an hour lunch every day so I think it will be easier to get done.
Before the treadmill though, I have not been doing anything. Not walking outside on lunch or at night with Taylor. I have to get Taylor by 5 (DCP closes then) so I was walking at night with a friend who lives down the street, a few nights a week.
DH's schedule will be changing so I don't know how that will work out next summer. I have a really hard time getting up and leaving the house to workout too. I think Annie is on the right track. I know we all want to spend as much time with our kids as possible, but we also need to get a few minutes in to keep ourselves sane. At least that's waht I feel like anyway.
Although I don't have a LO now, it was definitely being talked about before we decided to get PG.
When the LO is born, I'll be on maternity leave for four months (minus my own business junk). My plan is to get out to go hiking with them and the dog and also to go for walks in Portland (like Back Bay). I am also hoping to go to the gym for their mommy & me class, but that's assuming it is still being offered then. Otherwise I likely won't be able to go to the gym until on the weekend or if I can get my MIL to watch the kid for a bit after she gets out of work.
Once the LO is 4 months old, they'll be going to DC. Fortunately, my job lets me go home at 2:15 (yay for being a teacher)! Our plan from day one has been that I won't pick them up until 4ish and that I'll go to the gym at least a couple days a week instead (ideally every day). I lost 25 pounds before getting PG, so I am hoping to not gain any more than that during the pregnancy (and I really shouldn't gain any more than that according to my doctor). So I'm hoping to get back in to shape and my pre-pregnancy clothes by the time the kiddo goes to DC at the end of August.
Oh, also, I will be tracking my food intake with MyFitnessPal.com, which is what I used when I lost 25 pounds. It really helped me to be accountable.
I am with you!
Sad thing is, I am back to pre-pregnancy weight but I just look awful. But I don't know where to fit it in.
As it is, I am running on 5-6 hours of interrupted sleep per night. I can't get up earlier than 5, and I can't be working out at 10.
For a while I was exercising after Marcus went to bed. At first I was doing work out videos at home (there are a bunch of them on netflix instant), but I got bored of that and started going to the gym. It was hard for me to sustain at that time of night though, and eventually I just stopped doing it. To be honest, I hate to exercise, so it's really hard to incorporate it into a regular routine for me.
Before Marcus was born I lost 30 lbs on WW with no exercise. It does work, and the thing I like about it is that it is very flexible, and you can eat what you want. I'm not doing the new plan because I don't want to pay for it, and because I already have programmed in my head what a point is, how to figure it etc, and did well on the old program. I found an app that will track the old way on my phone, so I'm just going to do that. I find it easier to keep track of points than to track calories (I was doing that for a while with Lose It), and I like that you have a daily allowance as well as a weekly allowance.
Count me in as another hiking/walking buddy for the summer!
