Does it typically take awhile to suck up water? Normally we go get our tree (at a pre-cut place) and let them put a fresh cut in it and then get it home fairly quick and in water. This year we went to a tree farm (about an hour away) and cut it down ourselves. We ended up doing another fresh cut when we got home b/c it was several hours later and we just wanted to be extra careful.
This tree is not taking up very much water at all so far. Normally the first day is the day of drinking and I have to check the water several times just to make sure. I googled and I read that fresh trees don't take up water as quickly b/c they're not as dry or thirsty as pre-cut trees (which kind of makes sense). Is this true? I just don't want to end up with a dead tree but I don't understand how we went wrong!

Re: If you cut down your own tree..
Well, poop. I think I broke my tree.
Depends on how big your container is. Ours holds a lot of water and I only top it off. I need to check it tonight. Ours does drink more when we first get it, but not as much as a precut tree.

It's a pretty big container. I would say by this morning a pre-cut would have drank the entire container and it's probably only half way down with this one.
I don't think you broke your tree. That sounds about right to me. I think the precut trees drink more water than the ones you cut yourself. Just make sure it has water available and it should be fine.
