Christmas & Christmas Eve Food
What do you have for Christmas and Christmas Eve?
We have decided we are not leaving the house on Christmas Day this year but are inviting our families to our house. They want to see us they can come if not it is their loss.
But I have no idea what to serve. I'm not a fan of the whole ham and turkey thing, I was thinking lasagnia but mom said thats what she was planning for Christmas Eve so does anyone else have anything different that you do? What do you love or hate from your Christmas meal?
Re: Christmas & Christmas Eve Food
I'm still not sure if we are hosting Christmas Eve or not this year. ::eyeroll::
Usually, when we are at ILs, we have Chicken Parmesean for Christmas Eve, and then steak or some sort of roast on Christmas Night at J's Aunt's house. If we have it at our house, I will probably do some sort of Italian dish.

We're hosting Christmas Day too!
Christmas Eve my grandmother always orders Chinese food. It has been a tradition for many years now.
I'm making a roasted, stuffed chicken and my aunt is bringing a ham. Then we'll have a bunch of veggies, pretty much like Thanksgiving. My aunt often makes stuffed shells for my cousin who really doesn't like meat. Of course that really doesn't help since lasagna and stuffed shells are so similar.
Christmas Eve we go to DH's Aunt and Uncle's house and they usually serve ham and various sandwich meats and fixings. Some casserole type stuff, chips, dips, etc. Nothing fancy.
On Christmas we either have ham or turkey, depending on where we go. We are hosting Friendsgiving this Sunday and it is a combo Thanksgiving/Christmas celebration for our friends this year. I am serving a turkey and a ham. Everyone else will bring sides.
I love turkey, but I think the sides makes the meal. Sweet potatoes (with nuts, not marshmallows), stuffing, veggie casseroles, salads, mac n cheese, etc. I usually prefer the meats the next day on a sandwich.

I love this! Sounds like a great idea to me.

Christmas Eve we spend at my Grandma's house in the afternoon & evening. My Grandma has grilled shrimp. Every one else brings their favorite appetizer. We graze all afternoon, open presents and I bring a tray of holiday cookies that I make every year.
For Christmas Day we spend at my sister's house. We either fondue or we have prime rib, potatoes, veg and cookies for dessert.
In the past my Grandma made a huge ham dinner for Christmas Eve. I've also had turkey dinner or lasagne.
We spend CE at Rick's grandparents house and have a big dinner - normally lasagna, chicken parm, turkey, and whatever else gets brought to the party...
We have hosted Christmas day lunch for the last 2 years and will again this year - We told our parents that once we had Josh there was no way we were traveling so if they wanted to see us they would have to come up to us.
As for food on Christmas we do the normal Turkey/Ham with all the fixings...I will get up at 4am on Christmas morning and pop the turkey in the oven so its done at lunch time (there are 12 of us for lunch so I have a 30lb turkey for leftovers)
Christmas Eve is always a 'traditional' dinner with a ham and all the fixings at my parents house. Christmas day we'd always go to my grandparents for dinner and we just had a HUGE deli spread. Sandwiches, meatballs, shrimp cocktail, various 'deli' salads, fruit tray, etc. After all the indulgent eating from the day before (and a heavy Christmas breakfast!) a lighter dinner was perfect. Besides, it gave us more room for cookies
Not sure about CE as we usually go up to my sister's however she hates "hosting" (she doesn't host as she has everyone bring food and stuff). Actually she hates having her IL's come over so we may end up having CE over at our place. If we do, it will be Chinese food.
CD-it will be at my SIL's!! Since she is on modified bed rest and can not leave outside of the area, it will be great for a change of scenry. We plan to order dinner from the Fairmont. They have a dinner you can pick up. It is pretty much cooked, we just need to re-heat it.

When I was little we did hor dourves and pizza for Christmas Eve. Now we go to my dad's cousin's and she does a seafood buffet (something about a 7 fishes thing?).
On Christmas day my family usually goes to the chinese buffet or out for hibachi. I think this year we're going to host brunch though, and maybe go out with my parents for dinner if they still want to do it.
We do Christmas Eve at ILs house and then depending on the year we alternate DH's aunts house or ILs.
Christmas Eve-- there are a smorgosborg of appetizers-- shrimp, cheese plate, meatballs, artichoke dip, their special cream cheese mixture dip and I'll make a few things (baked brie or something). After their guests leave, if we are still hungry MIL has a ham or something like that and turkey.
Christmas Day- shrimp/ meatballs/ cream cheese thing plus crab cakes/ lobster stew and a whole bunch of things I'm totally forgetting.
Christmas Eve is never really a planned thing for us. Sometimes my MIL invites us over for supper and then usually it's just ribs and potato salad.
Christmas Day is lunch at DH's grandmother's house. It consists of turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, corn, coleslaw, cranberry jello stuff, and water/coffee to drink. Those are the only choices for any meal at her house, except Easter when she makes ham. There is usually never an actual dessert made, but she sends everyone home with a whoopie pie.
Christmas "Day" for my family, this year will be the day after Christmas. I am hosting, and I will be making ham, mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing. My siblings all bring sides/dessert to go with. So far I know we are having baked pineapple and pickled eggs.
For Christmas eve: B is half Italian Roman Catholic (his mom is 2nd gen American from just outside NYC) so we do the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Although it tends to be more like 13 fishes. And it is delicious. Christmas Eve is the holiday in his family.
We started hosting just my parents and brother at our house for Christmas last year. We'll probably do ham or turkey with sides, but not sure yet. Last year I did pork tenderloin. It's really informal. My parents hosted our families (my mom and dad's families) before they moved. Then it was at my aunt and uncle's house for a while.

We always did a bunch of finger foods/apps for Christmas eve. It was nice b/c everyone could walk around the house and sit and talk but not be tied down to a certain seat for dinner time. This would also be nice if people were coming and going over different times.
Chili, salad and garlic bread might be a good idea. It's not very labor intensive. If you made it in the crockpot it would stay warm if people wanted more. It's a comfort food for winter in IL.
