I have a Bundle Me type bunting thingy in DS's infant car seat. This is so convenient, so I don't have to mash his little arms into a coat every morning and try to stuff him into his seat.
He's now 20 pounds, and about to outgrow the weight limits of the carrier-style carseat. I'm dreading the loss of the convenience of the carrier, and realizing how this will affect our morning routine (where will I put him while I pack the last-minute things in his bag, for example). My biggest concern is the warmth factor. Am I stuck cramming him into a bulky jacket now? Is that even safe in a car seat?
Are there any jacket alternatives, like the Bundle Me things for convertible seats? Links?
Re: "bundle me" for convertible car seats???
They do make a 1-3 year old version of it.

This is us too. Eli has a fleece coat that he wears in the car and a blanket available. We take the bigger winter coat with us to daycare, etc.
The resource officer at my school does car seat inspections and he says it's not safe to wear bulky coats in a car seat since it can compromise the tightness and fit of the straps. There are also similar concerns about the Bundle Me. That being said, we do have the toddler size Bundle Me that we use in the jogging stroller and it's great.
You do have to be careful about bulky coats in car seats. Like Sarah (I think) mentioned, with a big puffy coat, if there was an accident the puff of the coat would compress, leaving the straps of the seat too loose.
I never put a big coat on James in the car, just a light one. When it gets really cold, I try to go out and warm the car (good for James, me, AND the engine!) so that it isn't so chilly. We also keep a blanket for his lap, though more often than not he tosses it. I am lucky that I park in a covered garage so when he gets out and I need to put the heavy coat on, he isn't too freezing for that 30-60 seconds.
