Questions for those that have moved back to the US...
Hi ladies! So I'm still seriously thinking about moving back to the US (Boston) next year. I'm trying to put a financial plan together to figure out when would be the best time.
Just wondering what moving costs I should take into account... obviously will need to ship a few boxes, but I won't bring anything big.. .and first/last month rent and a deposit. What else??
I'm single and will likely move in with a roommate at least for the first few months.
Re: Questions for those that have moved back to the US...
Thanks, I hadn't even thought about health insurance! It's going to be such a culture shock as I haven't ever really lived/worked in the US since college.
I'll probably get a car in time, but manage without until I have a job hopefully.
Rpic - I want to be in a city definitely and I really like Boston. I visited a couple months ago with the move in mind. There seem to be good job opportunities there, and I have a few connections through friends here. Plus my best friend moved there a few months ago, so I know her and a few other friends - which is one of the biggest plus points!
Boston is awesome! I went to law school there. Health insurance is mandatory for all MA residents. BCBS is pretty cheap there and Harvard VAnguard groups are affiliated. I think I paid under $250 a month for insurance when I was in law school through BCBS.
The city itself has a HCOL though, I was paying like $1500 a month for a studio in 2009 in Back Bay.
Things that got our wallet when we landed:
Health insurance, replacing all our household items we sold before we moved or left in Israel, cars/insurance, deposits for utilities, eating out for a couple weeks until we got settled, starting a household over (cleaners/stocking the fridge/tolietries/etc),and boarding our dog until we found a place.
