Tuesday poll- Holiday related

Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations?

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished?

How do you usually spend your holidays?

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)?

Re: Tuesday poll- Holiday related

  • Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations? Yes, we put up our tree this weekend, but no ornaments (because DS would take them off). I also put out all of my other winter decorations.

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished? I haven't even started. Is that bad?

How do you usually spend your holidays? Christmas eve with my father, Christmas day going all over the planet. This year, I think I'll cook a ham and make anyone who wants to see us come here. I don't feel like dragging DS around to 5 different places.

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)? Being settled in to a new house. This whole selling/moving process is looong and I'm ready to be done.

  • Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations? Yes.  Tree is up, lit, and ornaments on.  Mantle is done with stockings hung.  Outdoor lights are up and on the timer.  Candles are in the windows.  I still have other miscellaneous decorations to put out and clutter to clean up (ahem...dining room table...ahem) but we are pretty much done.

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished? Oh yes, I have started.  I don't know what got into me this year but I started shopping early in November.  I still have a few left but I think I am about 3/4 done, 2/3 if you count my in-laws who I will probably end up doing the shopping for with H last minute.  I have 5 gifts wrapped under the tree as of last night.

How do you usually spend your holidays? In theory we alternate Christmas between here and H's family, but my mom was sick this year so we are staying here for Christmas since it is her favorite holiday and we are so happy to have her home for it.  We will go see H's family in the week between Christmas and New Years.

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)? Summer, haha.  I don't have too many big things happening next year.

  • Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations? No. Well... DH left up the white lights around our big window from last year because he likes to turn them on once in a while. We'll get a tree at some point but I'd be fine without one. I don't decorate for Hanukkah except put out my menorah.... oh and I did win some window decals for Hanukkah that I could put up this year.

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished? Ehh, not really going crazy. DH, my sister & my brother are all getting keurigs from my parents so I bought everyone a My-K cup to be my annoying, environmentally crazed self and piss them all off Smile. We might get ILs a food-saver machine but not 100% set on that and I need to order some shutterfly books for both IL and my parents.

How do you usually spend your holidays? We do Hanukkah at some point with my parents and spend Christmas with the ILs (my family comes and joins them for Christmas day which is very nice).

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)? Spending time and watching DD grow and change Smile

  • Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations? Everything is up besides the tree! We went to get it on Saturday and the place we like was closed! :( But we'll be getting it this weekend.

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished? I started early. I'm just about finished with H, and my niece and grandmother are completely finished. Everyone else, not so much. I have a long way to go!

How do you usually spend your holidays? We spend Christmas Eve with my family. Christmas with the ILs is whenever we can all get together. Everyone has different schedules and days off so it gets hard sometimes.

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)? SIL's wedding and BabyPeeps!

  • Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations?
Not yet - we're going to buy our tree on Saturday.

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished?
I'm almost done. I just have to get some stocking stuffers for my husband, something for my grandfather (who is impossible), and one more gift for my brother.

How do you usually spend your holidays?
Traversing New England. We'll drive out to western MA for Christmas eve to see my family, have dinner at the awesome Chinese place near my brother's house, and then drive home. Christmas day, we'll drive to NH for dinner at my ILs. We've thought about switching it, but we wouldn't get to see my grandfather if we went out on Christmas day. Plus, my FIL is an amaaaazing cook, and my mom, not so much. I can't give up the best meal I eat all year!

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)?
New, awesome jobs for my husband and me (*knock wood*), and, hopefully, a vacation. Though that requires at least my husband getting a new job, and our dog becoming slightly less codependent/crazy.

  • ETA: mesa, your new siggy is so, so cute!

Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations? Yes, but the tree isn't totally done yet and I'm being so slow about it this year.  I think because we know we're not hosting Christmas for the first time in years that I'm less motivated to make everything look super nice.

The mantle is done and looks great, outside lights and candles in the windows are done, but there are still boxes of decorations everywhere and I really need to get on it.

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished?  I've started but am a loooong way from done.

How do you usually spend your holidays?  With my entire extended family since most of us live in the area.

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)?  Hopefully going to Africa and on safari.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Rock-n-voll I'd love to hear about your Africa travel planning!

    1. We have put up a few maybe 5 decorations. Having downsized from a house in NC to an apartment in Boston, all of our stuff is in storage and while I looked at it all Sunday it wasnt worth it to pull out the fake tree and 4-5 Rubbermaid containers, their just isnt room.

    2. We havent purchased a single gift yet!

    3. We alternate my family in Maryland with my husbands family in MA every Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is the first Christmas we wont be traveling since we moved from NC to MA.

    4. 2012 I'm excited to be settled in and have nothing big or exciting coming in 2012, hopefully just some vacations!

Um, that would assume that I've done any real planning so far Stick out tongue  There have been a million things to do and that's fallen by the wayside a bit, I'm afraid.  All I've done so far is read through a safari guide book to help decide what part of Africa we want to go to, but I still have so much more work to do!

  • Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations? Yes. We put them up the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We were away this weekend and will be away this coming Saturday so I wanted to get it done. And I like having them up for a while.

Have you started shopping for gifts? A little. Is anyone finished? MIL is finished. My grandmother is half finished. That's it. Still not sure what we're getting my family.

How do you usually spend your holidays? We switch off Thanksgiving and Christmas Day between DH's family and mine. We always do Christmas Eve at my grandmother's. On years we spend Christmas Day with my family we usually go down to visit MIL after Christmas. This year we're hosting Christmas Day and everyone is coming to us.

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)? The baby.

And I'd like to be packed along in your suitcase.

  • Just barely started decorations. Tree Friday

    Yes, no

It depends on the year. This year we're staying home and MIL is coming to us. I think this will be more the norm as DD is more and more aware of Christmas.

    Joining the Y

I love the Y. If we move to the house we might make an offer on this week, we might be going to the same Y! I need to check, I don't know if both towns have one.

We are having some problems with child watch (as in, DS hates it some days and I can barely leave him) but hopefully that will improve. We just keep trying.

  • Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations? The mantle is done. We are getting our tree this weekend. I have always just decorated the top 3/4 of it due to the dog(s) so this year won't be any different.

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished? I'm almost finished. I just need 1 more gift for my sister.

How do you usually spend your holidays? We don't have any routine or tradition because our families are so far apart. We dont' do the "every other Christmas" because I don't like spending xmas with ILs. This year it is just the 3 of us, I am working on my menu, though we have invitations to spend it with other families, I am not sure I want to. We will go to the childrens mass, and I am inviting people who are all alone for christmas day dinner.

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)?

Becoming more physically fit. I had it in my head I would try the bridge run, but it is a 10k and I don't think I could ever run something like that. But I may train and try anyway. I am going to take a pilates class with some of the money I will get for Christmas, I have high hopes it will help strengthen my core and therefore. alleviate this awful back pain I suffer from day in and day out.

I would say I'm excited about going to Bermuda, but in all honesty, I'm not really, because I haven't come to terms with the idea of leaving DS for 4 nights without me or DH to take care of him.

  • Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations?  All the decorations are out except for the tree.  We are planning to get that up and decorated either one night this week or on Saturday.

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished?  I have started but I am far from finished.  I did all the easy shopping first.  Now, everyone that is left are the people i have no ideas for (like my husband) so I am dreading it and procrastinating a bit.

How do you usually spend your holidays?  We are local for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  We leave the day after Christmas for the mountains through New Years.   Its a great way to unwind and relax after all of the craziness of the holidays.

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)? I am hoping to get pregnant and have another baby in 2012!

I have started the outdoor decorations, but nothing is complete. The tree is not up yet and I'm a little sad about that.

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished?

My fabulous sister is finished, my father is mostly finished, SO is not even started and Mom... well, who knows what to get her.

How do you usually spend your holidays?

I'd rather not think about that

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)?

    Finally finishing my masters degree!

  • Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations?

Hopefully we'll do that this weekend!  I'm dying for a wreath (I haven't had an outside door since living with my parents) and some cute indoor decorations... no tree for us, since we have three cats, haha.

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished?

We're doing DIY gifts for everyone this year.  I started on some things, but most won't be done until the week before (I'm doing a lot of edibles).

How do you usually spend your holidays?

We try to alternate holidays each year.  This year we'll do Christmas Eve at the in-laws and Christmas day at my mom's (she hosts for my side of the family)

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)?

Well, I guess just settling in to our new place finally.  And there's a small chance we may start TTC this year, so that would be beyond exciting for me.

  • Have you put up a Christmas tree/other holiday decorations? The tree is up, but we haven't decorated it yet....soon I hope.  Probably won't bring out the rest of the stuff, since I don't expect any company in the next few weeks.

I'm also realizing that having our Anniversary during the holiday season probably wasn't the best idea Smile

Have you started shopping for gifts? Is anyone finished? Won't do much this year because I was out of work for half the year....When we are tight on $$, we like to go to the Dollar Tree and buy each other a lot of little things.

How do you usually spend your holidays? Family is all over the country and far away, so we'll just stay home this year, just the 2 of us.

What are you most excited for in 2012 (which is only a few short weeks away!)? Finally getting pregnant (even if we end up needing some medical assistance), DH getting a discussed (and very deserved) promotion, seeing how my career plans turn out (whether my temp job goes full time, or something else comes up).  It will be another crazy year, I can tell Smile

    Punky,

That's very sweet of you!  I know I had a couple of holidays on my own, and was very grateful to a good friend who included me with their family celebration.
