From MM- Do you lock your doors?
I find it very interesting that people don't lock their doors if they are in the house.
Since Jon & I work different schedules the screen door and deadbolts are always locked when I am home. One of my biggest fears is someone breaking into our house and I can not protect myself. In fact if he works 3rd shift I sleep on the couch so I can hear if anyone is at the back or front door.
Anyone else a chicken like me?

Even though we live in a small town and I feel very safe, the doors are always locked, even if we are both home.
I'm the same way, I've always had a fear of someone breaking in (that's the reason I sleep on the side furthest away from our bedroom too lol)

If I am home alone or just the baby I always keep the doors locked. If H is home it is sometimes locked sometimes not. H always locks the door on his way out in the mornings.
Last yr when H was working in Tampa I would lock out bedroom door every night before I went to sleep.
And when I was growing up we never locked our doors even when we were home and for the most part the people in that town still don't.
We only lock the doors when we're both gone and at night. But only at night when one of us remembers.
We pretty much only lock it when we are both gone or at night. Sometimes if one of us is home alone sleeping or in the shower, it gets locked, and yes, more times than not I lock it if H is not home.
We only lock them when I'm home alone with the baby, we are both gone and at night. Also, we lock them when J is home alone but taking a nap or still sleeping ( I leave before him). Even though we live on a busy street and a block from the police station, you just never know. We have been even more diligent since there was a drug bust a few months back at a place that's less than 100 yards away.

We lock our doors if we're leaving the house, or if we're going to bed for the night. I will lock them if it's late at night and Chris isn't home yet and I'm going to be in the basement. Otherwise, they're generally unlocked if we're home.

Our doors are almost always locked, whether we're home or not. The alarm goes on any time we leave the house or if I'm home alone and I know Andy isn't coming home that night. Andy also sets the alarm on his way out the door in the morning while I'm still sleeping.
Really the only time our doors are unlocked is during nice days when I leave the screen door open or the porch door. Although if I have the screen open, I still lock that part even though if someone really wanted in they could just kick through the screen haha.
Our neighborhood is SUPER safe and I've accidentally left the garage open over night and nothing was stolen. Andy even accidentally left his gun propped up against his truck overnight and it wasn't taken. Our neighborhood is semi-secluded and the only foot traffic through it is people from the neighborhood walking their dogs (we don't have sidewalks).
Our door is always locked, much to my ILs chagrin (they only lock their doors at night, even when no one is home they keep the doors unlocked).
We have 3 locks on our door, We generally lock the deadbolt and regular lock at all times, then Doug insists we lock the 3rd lock when we go to bed. He also insists we lock our bedroom door when we're sleeping.
That's how I feel towarrds my parents -- they always lock their doors, even in broad daylight when everyone's home. Their neighborhood is safer than mine, and its a PITA especially when I'm trying to get into their house with my arms full of, say, Samma...

this is us exactly. Only now, our back sliding glass door is usually locked while we're home, but only because Diesel knows how to open the door and let himself out. He actually knows how to unlock it, but he won't do it if we're home. When we're not home, a bar has to go in the door so he doesn't let himself while we're not home.
Growing up, and when we lived on the beach, we pretty much only locked our doors if we were going out of town. I'm not sure why. I didn't even have a key to our house, and was locked out one time.
In our apartment, D and I lock the doors if we are both leaving, or if I'm home alone.
When we're not home or sleeping the doors/windows are always locked. If I'm home alone, it's 50/50: Bad weather or cold the doors are locked, good weather the doors and windows are open. As soon as the sun goes down, good weather or bad weather the doors/windows get locked.
When Danny used to work overnights, I'd lock everything and even lock myself in the bedroom.
