how would you spend a day in NYC

I'm going up on a bustrip....have been there before and done I think some typical sightseeing (rockefeller center, central park, and etc.), really don't want to spend money on a show and can't imagine getting any good deals on shopping. Does anyone have any interesting things they've done, or would want to do.

Re: how would you spend a day in NYC

  • I would go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Events have always conspired to keep me away from it during the trips I've taken to New York, and getting to go there alone and just wander to my heart's content sounds lovely.

  • I personally prefer the Guggenheim to MMA, but that's up do you. I'd definitely hit a museum. And this time of year, stroll 5th Ave. and look at the windows.

  • I'd eat.  I heard they have good bagels.

  • I'm not a big museum or art gallery person so that's never been on my list of things to do there, but if you do like them then that would be a great idea.

If you're still looking to do some touristy things or just hit a few areas you could buy a ticket for the red double decker busses, I think they are Grey Line?  We did that like 8 years ago when I went, and the tickets were like $50 or something.  But you can hop on and off the bus whenever you want to go to the area, and they always have busses picking up every 20 minutes in each location.

If you've never been there at Christmas time I would definitely go back to Rockefeller Center and see the tree, plus all the shop windows are decorated really pretty.

  • I'd get legit pizza and cannolis, see a broadway show and take a bus tour.

  • Go to Rockefeller center to see the tree, and go to the top of 30 rock to see NYC from up there, also you can do a lot of window shopping around there as well.

Times Square has a visitors information office check out what else you can do for free,  The museums are always interesting.

  • Rockefeller center to see the decorations and also 5th ave.

We always do a WTC memorial tour.  I don't know what it is called exactly but it is on one of the streets that borders ground zero on the same block as the firefighter's memorial.  I want to say it's actually called the World Trade Center Museum...it's a little place.  We visit that and they do tours and it is all first count stories from your tour guide.  It's all volunteers that were basically on the site when the towers fell in one respect or another.  They all have very different and very touching stories.

The wax museum is pretty cool if you aren't into museums but still want to see something you probably can't see at home.

We always get the day subway pass because for what we do it ends up saving us a lot of money instead of paying for each subway stop individually.

Go to a comedy show.  They have them all over and at all prices but typically are only at night.
