Pinterest Reviews

Since Pinterest is all the rage these days, I'm just curious if anyone has made anything or used any inspiration IRL from things found on Pinterest.  If so, let's hear it!  I've made some recipes that I'll share along with my reviews.

Crock Pot French Toasthttp://momswithcrockpots.com/2011/09/crockpot-french-toast-casserole/

I omitted the nuts since I'm not a fan, but this was delicious and such a great concept, especially for say, a holiday morning.  Would definitely recommend.

Sirloin Steak with Garlic Herb Butter:  http://www.gourmetdaytoday.com/2011/09/16/steak-with-garlic-herb-butter/

The hubs will never, ever eat a steak without A1, but in this case, he raaaaaved over the garlic herb butter.  I made this on a rainy day so I pan fried the steak which sucked, but I imagine if you grill it, it would be just as perfect as it looks in the recipe.

Fancy Calzone: http://www.squidoo.com/homemade-calzone

I've made the calzones twice now, but they are more like strombolis since I associate calzones with ricotta cheese and I haven't made them with that yet.  The first time I made it for just the hubs and I and I followed the basis of this recipe but made it with cheesesteak filling instead.  I just cooked a box of Steak 'Ums (what I had in my freezer, don't judge) and put the cooked steaks in with mozzarella cheese and some spices.  It was delicious...seriously.

I also made them this past weekend for a party with some fellow nesties.  I also think they came out fantastically.   This time I made classic strombolis, one pepperoni and one cheese.  I followed the recipe exactly and just used precooked pepperoni for the filling.  The only thing I'd do next time is maybe brush with an egg wash to make the top prettier.

Twix Trifle: http://gimmesomeoven.com/twix-trifles/

This was, in a word, AH-MAY-ZIIIIIIING. I made this for a dinner party this past Saturday night.  I followed the recipe except I added a layer of devil's food cake (from a box) for texture.  Seriously, it may or may not have been the biggest hit of about 15 desserts at said party.  I made the caramel mousse from the recipe and whipped cream (confectioner's sugar and heavy cream) but used jarred chocolate sauce. The layers from the bottom up were cake, caramel mousse, chocolate sauce, twix, whipped cream and repeat.  This might be my new go to dessert.

This might be my longest post ever so I hope many of you will follow suit and share what you've made or used!

Re: Pinterest Reviews

  • Pinterest has made me up my cooking anti lately too.

Recently I've been searching for one pot meals so my kitchen actually get's cleaned after dinner. (DH does the clean up.... so one pot meals seems to be motivating him to do it before bed vs. when he wakes up in the am)

     http://thefoodaddicts.com/southwest-chicken-rice-one-pot-meal/

I added white beans to this because I had some. It was good. Next time I might add some chili powder and/or paprika.

Instead of mashed potatoes I bought a bag of hashbrowns and did this one in the crock pot.

  • I'd love to follow any of your boards, if you don't find me to be a stalker :)  I am not sure how you find people, though.

I made this jambalaya, which is awesome.

This greek dip is really good (and soooo easy).

I was just looking through my recipe pins, and realized pretty much every recipe I have either involves cheese or pumpkin, or both.  Pretty much nothing healthy at all - oops!  I will need to revise this.

  • Great post Jess!

I made this bbq crockpot chicken and it was super easy and DH LOVED it. In fact, we are having this again tonight.

    http://forkinit.blogspot.com/2010/09/crockpot-barbecue-chicken.html

I made this buffalo chicken in the crockpot and it was a bit too tangy for us - I think I would need to add something else to cut the buffalo sauce-ness.

    http://mykitchenapron.blogspot.com/2011/07/crock-pot-buffalo-chicken.html

These chicken bites were a big hit with DH - he loves bacon and baking it makes it really crispy.

I made these funfetti sandwiches but they did not turn out as pretty as the ones in the blog post. They were OK.

Finally - these are so simple but really nice addition to a meal if you are sick of the same ole potato. I add some chedder cheese at the end.

  • Korean Style Short Ribs-Slow Cooker http://joelens.blogspot.com/2010/04/korean-style-short-ribs-crockpot.html This was pretty good-it is actually from one of the girls on the WC boards-she has some great recipes! I would probably make this again, Mongolian Beef http://blogchef.net/mongolian-beef-recipe/ Made this last night! Would definitely make again-it was soooo good! Penne with artichokes http://chichoskitchen.blogspot.com/2011/04/penne-with-artichokes.html I really liked this-Martin did not. He likes more sauce and meat in his pasta. It was quick and easy though so I will probably make it again! My first craft attempt: image

  • I can't access pinterest at work, but I have made two chicken recipes, one was a crockpot chicken salsa, which turned out pretty good.  After cooking it all day, I shredded it and then we ate as tacos.

Another was chicken with cream cheese and cream of chicken soup.  It was good, but way too much sauce for two chicken breasts.

Sunday, I did make ornaments with my nieces that was inspired from pinterest.  One was their hand prints on glass ornaments, and the other was a snowman face on a glass ornament, filled with shredded paper, pom-pom ear-muffs, they turned out really cute.

I have the supplies to make the glass tile necklaces for christmas gifts.  Just have to pick out some paper to glue to the back of the tiles

I plan on doing the hand print one for Tommy's 1st ornament. I can't wait! I'd love to see a pic of the snowman face one then.

Ha! I'm totally doing this, too! What did we seriously do before Pinterest?

  • As for the handprint, I used red paint on the clear glass ball.  Kind of hard to see because of the filler I used (you can see in the snowman pic of the filler I used).  I would recommend using a colored ball, or black paint to make the hand print.

Here is the snowman: (I took the pic before he was all complete, I added a bow as his scarf and used the same ribbon for the "hanger")

  • I've made more crafty stuff then recipes, but here goes:

This cape. It's adorable. Love it but the minky was hard to work with. I've made another one with cordoury. . http://pinterest.com/pin/131026670378391791/

This lemon hand scrub. Not lemony enough, though.  http://pinterest.com/pin/131026670378380479/

This vanilla brown sugar body scrub. Too oily and makes me almost fall in the shower b/c I coats the shower bottom with oil.  http://pinterest.com/pin/131026670378380478/

This sash for my SIL's bridal shower. Came out so cute:  http://pinterest.com/pin/131026670378356635/

This pearl necklace from two strands and some ribbon. Get compliments on it every time I wear it: http://pinterest.com/pin/131026670378329040/

This necklace onesie for Luciana. It's cute and it was so freakin easy.  http://pinterest.com/pin/131026670378331495/

I also made these bean bags, both with the ribbons and without. They're easy for beginner sewers (w/o the ribbons) and they're fun. I've made a few sets of them as gifts. http://sewlikemymom.com/bean-bag-tutorial/ .

    Thanks  :)

I got them at AC Moore, they are the larger sized ones.  The AC Moore here in SP stinks big time.  Satruday I had shopping to do over in Deptford, ran into the Michaels, and their selection is just 100000x times better than AC Moore.  I really wanted the flat glass ornament for the snowman, but ACM didn't have them, but Michaels did.

Thanks so much. My brother is getting married NY Eve and I'd like to make a ball that has his wedding invitation inside of it.

You've been busy.  Cute stuff.  Love the onsie.

Have you seen the bracelet made with twine or jute, tied with pearls here and there.  I really like that.  I want to try to make it.
