Does anyone have a kindle or nook?

I'm thinking about getting one for my mother for Christmas. I don't know what the difference between the two are. I though I saw a post a while ago about someone having one or selling one? If you have one which do you have and how do you like it.  Thanks.

Re: Does anyone have a kindle or nook?

  • I have a Nook, the 1st Edition (not touch screen). I got it for Christmas last year. I love it, but I don't get to use it at much as I'd like just because I don't have time. But I find it to be incredibly convenient. For example, I took it on my flight to PA, and when I finished one book I just downloaded another. It was nice.

If I were going to buy one now I would definitely go for the Nook Tablet or the Kindle Fire just so I could have internet access. But, those are more expensive. My sister and nephew both have the Nook Simple Touch and they love theirs. My 9 year old nephew carries his everywhere.

  • Thanks for the helpful info, I'm gonna check it out now.

  • I also have a Nook gen. 1 and my H has a Kindle.  We both read a ton so it saves us a bunch of book space and it is super easy to use both interfaces.

If your parents have Amazon Prime, I'd definitely go Kindle because they just vastly expanded the Amazon Lending program to include new, free, best sellers that you can "check out" for free.

If not, I'd go with the Nook because I think that my Nook is sleeker (no keyboard) and the buttons on the sides work slightly better.

  • Side note - I feel like maybe Hizzle had a nook she was trying to sell?

  • Great info, thanks. I think I'm leaning more towards the nook, she needs something simple, and it sounds like that would be just enough for her.

  • I had a 1st gen Nook but I lost it.  I then got nook simple touch and I love it more than the 1st gen.  I find the tablet ones to be too shiny and bright, which makes it hard to read at night.

  • I also have the first generation Nook. LOVE it.

I think MB was the one trying to sell a Nook or something?

Oh, yeah.... that was sold to one of Chris' co-workers a while ago.  Sorry!

  • Mark has the kindle fire- he loves it- only bad part- if you are trying to read outside forget about it. Just like a computer. Great features though. He had a regular kindle and loved it but he got jealous of my ipad so he wanted something similar.
