What is considered a deep cleaning?
Hi ladies,
I am considering hiring a cleaning lady to come in and do a deep clean once per month. She's actually a friend who owns her own cleaning company so I know she will do a great job and not overcharge me. If you have your house deep cleaned (or even if you do it yourself) what does it generally consist of? I guess I'm not really sure what the difference is between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning.
TIA!
Re: What is considered a deep cleaning?
I've never hired it out, so I'm not sure exactly what they'd do. However...
When I do it, H and I both attack the house. I usually start on the top floor and work my way down.
- Bathrooms are scrubbed from top to bottom
- All linens are taken down and washed (curtains, door mats, quilts, etc)
- Furniture is moved away from the walls so baseboards can be cleaned and floors can be mopped underneath
- Pictures are taken down and cleaned
- Walls are dusted
- Appliances are moved out to clean behind/under them
- Ceiling fan taken apart and cleaned
- Kitchen cabinets cleaned inside and out
- Windows and window casings washed
Then we do our normal cleaning (bathrooms, wipe down kitchen counters and appliances, dust, sweep/mop floors, etc). I keep the windows open for a little while when I'm done to air the place out.
It takes H and I all day to get this done. We have a 1,500 sq ft, 3 story townhouse and it's just me, H and our son.

"deep cleaning" is scrubbing the entire bathroom, moving furniture to get under it, washing rugs, decorative pillows, and just a more thorough job overall.
Regular cleaning = whenever necessary (daily or weekly)
Deep cleaning = once a month
I do deep cleaning quarterly/seasonally. I shampoo the couch, move the fridge and stove to mop under, dust ceiling fans, wash light globes if necessary, wipe down baseboards, clean the glass in the china cabinets, wash curtains.
