s/o Christmas: The Christmas Pickle - clicky poll

Ok now I'm really curious.. I asked about St. Nick (it's a European culture thing) but do you do or know the Christmas Pickle?

The Christmas pickle is an ornament that's hidden in the tree and usually the first child to find it gets an extra present.

Re: s/o Christmas: The Christmas Pickle - clicky poll

  • I first heard about this when I took my grandparents to their Sunday School class Christmas party at someone's house. They family was German and they had a pickle "hidden" on their tree.

I had to laugh at playing "hide the pickle" during a Sunday School party ;-) (my inner 12 year old boy sense of humor can't be contained!!)

  • We did hide the pickle, but we had two on the tree so my sister and I could both find one--the something "extra" was our yearly Christmas ornament.

And today being St. Nicholas Day, we would put our shoes outside our bedroom doors and they would be filled with candy (in ziploc bags) when we woke up. :)  When I was in college, my mom would send me crazy holiday shoes filled with candy since it was exam time.

  • Funny - I just found out about this yesterday from one of my students. :)
