Christmas/Holiday Menu

What is on your holiday/Christmas menu?  I am hosting this year and I have no idea what to make...

Re: Christmas/Holiday Menu

  • Nothing at all for me except making a batch of cinnamon rolls and freezing them to be baked on Christmas morning.  We won't be home from Disney until Christmas eve.

  • We're doing a ham.  Probably twice baked potatoes, I love those bad boys.  I don't know what else though, I could use some inspiration.

  • Cookies.  If you have a party without cookies it is not, by definition, a holiday party.

My family does traditional but casual-- ham on Christmas day.  M's family does Christmas Eve and his mom usually makes something fancier but it's not always the same thing.  She's done tenderloin, rack of lamb, prime rib.

My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling. image Hipster dog is not impressed.
  • I almost forgot that I'm hosting a Chistmas GTG on another date.  Oops.

We always try to venture away from the normal holiday foods on Christmas.  Two years ago one of my sisters served italian food.  Last year the other served barbecue.  Last time I hosted I served roast beef, scalloped potatoes, tomato soup, homemade bread.

This year I'm thinking about serving TexMex.

  • I'm getting a Ham. (probably honeybaked, turkey day was a lot of work)

Menudo. and Tamales. (grandma will make, i'll help)

J's family does Pozole and Tamales.

    mmm food

  • For apps I am making  baked spinach and artichoke dip with tortilla chips and french bread. My mom is making Colombian rice and we are having Frijoles a la Charra made by one of our cooks at the restaurant.

We do Prime Rib, Turkey, roasted potatoes and sweet potatoes, salad, rice, stuffing.

Dessert: Dulce de leche cheesecake that my cousin makes, flan cake that my aunt makes, oreo truffles that my sister makes, I'll bring a pecan pie cause I don't bake.

And we will probably have lots more. There are about 30 or so of us this year.

    Can't wait!!!

My in-laws keep it simple with ham, potatoes, veggies and chicken for me since I don't eat ham.

  • I'm getting a honey baked ham and maybe a turkey breast. I'll make au gratin potatoes and mashed potatoes. besides potatoes I have no idea what sides to make. I need ideas too.

  • Flitet of beef with gorgonzola cream sause, roasted potatoes, roasted cherry tomatoes, homemade ravioli with nona's sauce.
  • I am hosting Christmas Eve dinner for the first time and I'm really excited. So far, this is the menu:

    Appetizers:

-Bacon wrapped dove breasts - grilled (my dad will bring)

    -Pioneer Womans stuffed mushrooms

    -Spinach dip & crackers

    Main:

-Monkey bread (we do a savory type, not the sweet)

    -Beef tenderloin

    -Mac N Cheese

-Roasted veggies (potatoes, carrots, zucchini, garlic & some tomatoes)

-Salad w/ pears, pecans & gorgonzola

    Dessert:

    -Chocolate roll

-Home made vanilla bean ice cream

    -Cheesecake

    -Snickerdoodles

Some of the menu items are for family members and what I know they will like (my brother will only eat the monkey bread, mac n cheese & beef for example). I was thinking of maybe adding another side dish but I don't have double ovens and it might be hard to bake another side in my one oven.

  • We always have mexican food for Christmas eve.  I am doing chicken enchiladas (may do pollo poblano instead) and beef fajitas.  Sides are baracho beans, and spanish rice.  May make a tres leches for dessert but I want to try something else.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and used against you. My Blog
  • Christmas Eve will be Swedish meatballs, boiled new potatoes with butter and fresh dill, stuffed pork loin, and my dad will top of the Swedish dinner with homemade tamales.  It always cracks me up, but it's a tradition my grandfather started and my Dad has continued.  We also have Norwegian rice pudding with raspberries for dessert.

We will be taking a smoked turkey to my B/SIL's on Christmas day.

    Lilypie Angel and Memorial tickers
  • My parents are hosting so it will be Thanksgiving 2.0 (turkey, dressing, baked beans, candied sweet potatoes, etc).

I'm responsible for the dinner rolls and I'll also probably bring the mince pie because no one else will make one. And it's not Christmas without mince pie.

  • Christmas Eve will be a disaster, but that's a whole other story. Let's just say it involves DH's family.Enough said there

Christmas day is stereo typical at my Mom's:

    Turkey
    mashed taters/gravy
oyster and either pepper or celery filling
fresh frozen corn ( my mom froze)
celery/olives (on table before dinner is served)
    maybe green beans
    biscuits/butter/jelly
fresh fruit salad with homemade whipped cream
    maybe a pie or two
