how did the wig visit go? did you find something she liked, or are you going to wait to buy one?
Re: babygirlpriest
I have been thinking about this too! I hope things are going well!
Thanks for asking. Unfortunately we haven't gone yet.
She wasn't ready emotionally to let go of that 5% chance she'd keep her hair and spending a lot of money was admitting "defeat" or something. All she was willing to do was shop Value Village for a couple hats.
Unfortunately her hair is falling out in big clumps (she's in Chad right now) and plans to shave her head before coming back to the states. What sucks is she arrives, has chemo all day the next day, they're closed Sunday, and usually by Monday she'll be feeling awful. I leave for Christmas break Wed night but hopefully by Wed afternoon she'll be up for an hour or so at Amy's of Denmark.
Thanks for asking and thanks again for the rec. She's, very understandably, quite upset and I'm so happy there's a place that specializes in these cases.
Right now my big concern is getting her home safe. She's had one round of chemo so couldn't get the necessary yellow fever vac., has a lowered im. system, and is in a remote part of Tchad for another week.
Again, I am so sorry you all have to go through this. I sucks. There is no other way to say it.
She may change her mind about the wig. I was up and down about it until I finished my 7 weeks at JHU. Once I was home, I really only wore it if people were coming over. Other wise, I would wrap around a scarf or put on a hat.
In regard to her immune system, since she just started the treatment I think she will be okay. As the drugs start to accumulate in her system it starts to wear you and your immune system down. NOt to make light of your concerns, because they are valid. I know you will feel much better once she is back here!
Try to get her to stay hydrated. It helps get the drugs out of your system.
I am keeping you all in my prayers. If you need anything - to vent, ask questions, whatever, just let me know!
