Random Story about Canceling School

Every time it snowed when I was a kid, I would go to sleep all excited that I might wake up and find out school had been canceled and I could sleep in.  One day when I was in the 7th grade, I went to sleep with such an expectation.  Sadly, I woke up at 6:30 to find that school was sadly in session.  So I pouted around and got ready, ate breakfast, blah blah blah.  I trudged down to the bus stop in about 10 inches of snow, cursing the school board the whole walk because they hadn't canceled school.  It was also freezing cold.  I stood out at the bus stop for about 15 minutes, figuring that the stupid buses were running late because of the weather.

Finally my Mom came out and yelled down the street that school was INDEED closed afterall.  Apparently it had just been posted on the news.  Stupids.  You'd think I would have been happy that there was no school, but by this point I had already woke up, gotten dressed, and been standing out in frigid temps....all before 7:30am.  Needless to say I was miffed.

The End.

  • I love it when they actually post it the night before and I can sleep in the next morning too instead of getting up and looking to see if they are closed.   The kids are always suprised when they wake up and realize that they slept in and it's a snow day.
  • I have a random story like that- sorta but not really.  More crazy.
We had a blistery cold morning and our school had cancelled a few times for the windchill prior to the day. We were all at the bus stop (group of kids would meet at one location for the bus) complaining about how cold it was and why the school didn't cancel it.  One of the kids said to a few of us 'don't worry we'll be going home soon'.  Didn't really think anything of it at the time.  When we got to school, the bus took us to a different school and we were all in the gym. We finally were told that there had been a bomb threat made that morning!!
A bit later we were sent back to the high school and resumed our day. Even later in the day, I was called down to the principals office and questioned by him and the police!  Fortunately, I was honest and told them what the kid had said and swore on my life I had no idea what was going on.  A few other girls were also called down and told them the same story, so we were all in the clear. Guess they called down the kids that were from the same street to question.
That kid was arrested and no longer attended school with us.  I felt terrible and awkward because I was close to his sister and then suddenly I wasn't :/
