Another Job Question

Let's just say that this 2nd job interview went really well tonight and I get the job (I should find out tomorrow).  Do I tell my job where i'm going or do I just tell them that i'm going someplace for another type of position?

This would be a job at another bank, but in a totally different department, doing a job that my current company doesn't offer.

I don't want to close any doors with my current company but I don't want to screw myself either.

Re: Another Job Question

  • I don't think you'd risk anything by telling them the name of the company you're going to.  That's up to you and how comfortable you are in giving them that information.  But if you're looking to not close any doors, why not be open about it?

Also, getting an offer tomorrow isn't the same as giving notice.  Make sure you've signed a contract, have a start date, etc. before giving notice at your current job.

  • I don't see anything wrong with telling them where you're going. Or maybe don't bring it up yourself, but if they ask I would definitely tell them.

    Yes. This is very important.

Glad it sounds like the interview went well despite being sick! :)

  • I agree with Madisen. Congrats on the interview going well! Keep us posted.

  • I agree with you guys about the contract, I'm just thinking ahead. Even if i'm offered the position tomorrow they told me the earliest start date would be Jan. 4th.

It's been on my mind and since I have close to zero experience with this whole "getting a new job thing" I want to make sure i'm doing things correctly.
