White lies by omission.

DH does not need to know the reason my scalloped potatoes were so good Sunday night is because they were made heavy cream instead of milk.

Re: White lies by omission.

  • It's not lying, to simply omit to disclose certain facts that would only cause pain.
SO SINGS MY SOUL *WHAM!* MY SAVIOR GOD TO THEE *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!*
  • If he didn't ask, it's not a lie.

Haha. We had them Sunday and leftovers last night. He said a few times, "Omg these are sooooo good!" and I was like, "I KNOW, RIGHT!" Big Smile

  • I think this is called a "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

This. My younger brother HATED eating all forms of condiments and sour cream. After I started helping my mom in the kitchen, she would tell me in hushed tones, "Now don't tell your brother, but I add 1/2 cup of sour cream to the enchiladas..." or whatever. I don't think he figured out what actually goes into egg salad sandwiches, either.

My mom used to chop the onions for spaghetti sauce so small that you practically needed a magnifying glass to see them. He still picked them all out.

  • We'd always have tea at my aunt's house (grandpa was off the boat from Scotland, it was a thing in that house), but the summer before she died my aunt said to me "They don't know, but I've been serving everyone decaf when they come over.". My parents had no idea.

I always sneak spinach or yogurt into the smoothies I make for DH and the kids, I always tell them the bananas were a bit over ripe and that's why the color is off.

  • See, in my house, I'd be all "Hellzyeah they kick ass and this is why!  BOOYA!"

Is there a reason you're keeping this dirty secret from him?

He's trying to be good and get back in shape. He's upset he doesn't currently have a six pack. Meanwhile, I'm trying to clean out the fridge and pantry of Thanksgiving remnants, like heavy cream, onions and potatoes.

Yeah, but you know what?  The holidays are only once a year.  Its not like you're forcing heavy cream down his throat every day of the year.

  • Exactly Geek! Also, I can use this for next time I make scalloped potatoes and they aren't as good, I can say, "oh, yeah, but those ones last time were sooo unhealthy"

LOL, nope, you can't even do that because then you will have essentially outed yourself for *this* transgression.  The only solution I can see is that you're just you're just going to have to keep making them with the heavy cream!

Geek is right. You are going to have to go with a, "I don't know why they turned out differently this time. Huh."

You never know when you might have cream you need to get of again. Soup is my usual go-to dish.
